JD maybe to get a start ?

Joe Jordan says Rafa van der Vaart 'has a chance' of facing Aston Villa on Monday.

The in-form forward suffered hamstring irritation in Holland's friendly against Switzerland on Friday.

Rafa was back in training at Spurs Lodge on Wednesday and speaking at a pre-Villa press conference this morning (Thursday, November 17), first team coach Joe was certainly hopeful that he would be available to face Villa.

"Rafa trained on Wednesday and from what the medical team are saying he's at 75 per cent," said Joe.

"That's good, but we have to get him from 75 per cent to 100 per cent, we'll have take it day to day and we do have a few days with the game on Monday.

"He's got a chance, but it is important that there is no recurrence of the injury.

"This morning is important as we'll get the players back out there again and we'll have players with varying degrees of fitness. Luka, for example, played two games for Croatia, other players played once. We'll get them out there again and monitor them.

"The other lads are progressing nicely. Vedran Corluka is okay, he played in the first game for Croatia and was suspended for the second game.

    "We have no major doubts."

Niko Kranjcar (thigh), Danny Rose (ankle) plus longer-term Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) remain out

I'd go with Defoe if VDV is anything less than 100%. No point in risking aggravating his injury and possibly lose him for the Christmas period. Apart from that selection we will surely be unchanged from the Fulham game.

Agbonlahor is doubtful for them. Hopefully he is ruled out because he has been in fine form this season.

    agreed

we are at home so JD should do well - all rested cos he wasnt involved with england etc.

3-1 to spurs i think with jenas having a stinker!

Jenas is on loan so that clown won't feature. Good news if Agbonlahor is side lined.

Hopefully the lads can continue where they left off. VDV needs to be 100% fit for this or it has to be Defoe who I feel will be really up for it. It's about time Ade started scoring again too - he's played well but just hasn't put the ball in the net. Having said that, it's great that we're still winning with only one striker scoring. If he starts putting the ball in we could end up thumping a few teams.

King in defence, which is great, though I still feel we'll concede a goal as we always seem to, but I hope we'll have too much in the middle and up front for them.

It would be fantastic to keep this run going, especially with Chelsea and Liverpool playing each other as one or both of them will lose points.

Ya with the Chelsea/Liverpool game and Newcastle surely going to drop at least two points (I can't believe I am checking on their games) I think a win is going to be huge.

wouldnt risk VDV,wait till he is fully fit, chelsea coming up,need him ready for that.think defoe would do well against villa.3-0 spurs,

Any kind of a win will see us up to fourth and hopefully a draw or 1 goal win for chelsea tomorrow and we could be as high as third with a game in hand.

Yeah Chelsea look very disjointed and wide open at the back, shame we are not playing them sooner as we would rip them to shreds with Bale and Lennon getting in behind. I hope they dont get their act together in the next few weeks. Back to tomorrow night, it will not be easy but an early goal should set us up for a home win. COYS!

3 points is a must put some distance between us and the rest while we can

The ground should be rocking alright. This season is a massive opportunity for us to do better than just breaking into the top 4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I'd rip your arm off if you offered me top 4 now :)

I was delighted to see Chelsea loose yesterday. Liverpool are much more likely to drop those three points against mid table teams down the line.

Biggest three points of the season so far.

One thing im really looking forward to is when we really hit top gear. At times this year we've looked outstanding during certain periods of games and rarely kept it going for 90mins. I can only dream of what sort of run we'll go on when that happens.

Adebayor is playing really well without hitting the back of the net regulary, i think tonight he could bag a few.

What i dont want to hear is Harry , Bond or any of the lads coming out with any stuff about winning the league. We did it last year and fell apart. Keep it in house, try stay under the radar for as long as possible and i think second or third is well within reach

God I'd love to be part of a title challenge, just to experience it like. Even in with a mathematical chance with 3 games to go would be unbelievable. I don't think in a million years it will happen to be honest but it would be real dreams come true stuff.

Really big opportunity for us to lay down a marker to the teams around us.
I think we'll win 3-1, going to back Bale to net the last goal as well.

    • Jermain Defoe has scored three goals in his last four home league matches against Villa.
    • Tottenham have made their best start to a season since 1990, when they also had 22 points from 10 matches.
    • Tottenham are unbeaten in their last five league matches against Aston Villa. Spurs recorded 2-1 victories home and away last season, with Rafael van der Vaart scoring twice on both occasions and Marc Albrighton netting Villa's goal each time.
    • Villa's only win in their last 11 league visits to Tottenham was by 2-1 in September 2008 when Nigel Reo-Coker and Ashley Young scored for Villa. Current Villa forward Darren Bent scored for Tottenham.
    • Harry Redknapp is unbeaten in his last 10 Premier League matches against Aston Villa since Portsmouth's 1-0 defeat at Villa Park in March 2006.
