Meehan looks pretty buff but the footballers have been training hard for a good while now. Hurlers are not long back after a long year so I'd say most of the hard conditioning work is still ahead of them.

    Blockbusters jersey.

Both Galway and Down have had a fair few changes in jersies over recent years. A change in jersey nearly every two years now, if I am not mistaken!?

Crap jersey in comparison to some classic Down kits in the recent and not so recent past, but credit for a smashing launch and the 2013 just pushes it over the edge. Well done. Shame on you O'Neills for that swoosh shít on the body.

Lads quick question, is the rule still in place that only Irish based sprts companies can make jerseys for the GAA. I was sure there was a rule that was relaxed at the time that Gaelic Gear and Azzuri started making county jerseys.

Just wondering what sort of job Nike or Adidas would do on some county jerseys and why none of them had a go.

Adidas have in the past, through a loophole which has since been closed.

All kits have to be manufactured in Ireland, so without Nike and Adidas manufacturing plants in Ireland, they're not allowed.

That was it, i was going to say about addidas and Kerry then i wasnt sure as i just for some reason remembered addidas kerry polo tops.

Its a bit crazy in 2013, it seems to be me a lot of the time O Neills basically know they have a monopoly and dont really bother putting any thought into County jerseys. A bit of competition might be no harm and having bought a couple of Gaelic Gear Wexford jerseys over the years i can tell ye there really isnt much competition

Azzurri and Gaelic Gear are scrap, bring out a decent product, Clubs will buy it, take a hit for a few years, get a foothold, but thats how monopolies work I guess. Speaking as someone with experience, I wouldnt buy from anyone other than O Neills due to the sheer poor quality elsewhere.

The Hexagons seem to be a new O'Neills thing. They are on the Dublin jersey also which looks the same template as Galway new shirt.

It will be all shadow stripes from here on in with O'Neills id say

List of approved kit suppliers can be found here:
    http://www.gaa.ie/tickets-and-merchandise/approved-suppliers/

Worth noting that the companies mentioned there are the only companies allowed to use the GAA mark on kit, etc. You'll see some clubs using other suppliers for t-shirts, kitbags, etc but without the GAA 'mark' (I'd call it a logo myself, but that's neither here nor there)

I'm assuming the GAA copyrighted 'modern' county crests fall under the same rules, even though its not explicitly stated on that page ... Otherwise I'd have expected at least a couple of counties would have sourced some team/leisure wear from one of the bigger international suppliers by now.

Gaelic Gear went bust in 2010. IMO Masita and Azzurri are just as good as O'Neills.

Its surprising Cork havent got a sponsor yet, i know they got serious money from O2, is it a case they are only willing to accept a sponsor willing to pay the sort of money O2 were paying?

You would imagine so. Given their size, scope, and success across the codes, you would imagine they would be second only to Dublin in the Country and therefore would view themselves in the Vodafone bracket. I believe Hyundai are in the mix and possibly Toyota.

    Thumbs up surely.

A Team maybe saving lives but dont let that get in the way of a bitter bitter post.

    Well done.

A poster is clearly making this thing called a joke, you may have heard of it. Although possibly you may not be able to quite grasp humour from your lofty position upon your high horse. Also, i feel calling the joke - a play on medical terminology essentially 'bitter' a wee bit OTT, never mind 'bitter bitter'. Heaven forbid!

Being a bit of a traditionalist myself, while it doesn't look like the Offaly shirt we have all come to know the design isn't bad albeit even if it is modern.

Id imagine Wexford will change this year also

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭EIRE1922

The colours of the Offaly jersey should be reflected at the back of the jersey, aswell!

The same should go for the Tipperary, Mayo and Clare shirts where the bands have disappeared from the back of the jersies over recent years. The red band has gone completely from the Mayo jersey since last year. A disgrace!

Can't see why tbh very nice design..

Also easily recognisable front and back as an Offaly jersey..

Always had a soft spot for offalys jerseys they are always a lovely kit

Don't know why people are surprised over Corks lack of a sponsor. Look whos negotiating it. the players involved in the strikes have all but gone yet the Co. board continue regardless.

Rank is a tad strong for me. Im not so sure I like the round neck or the stripe on the arms. The crest seems lost on it too. Still it's whats inside that counts;)

The problem with hoops around the back also in the modern age is that people are struggling to see the numbers on the backs and this is starting to prove an issue for media and support alike. The days of the big white patch are long gone.

Ah good, a rant against Frank, we haven't heard one of them in a while.

Ah its not that bad. I think thats a lovely design and its hard to fully sign off on an Offaly shirt until you see it on a big red headed Biffo with a pint of smithwicks in his hand in The Big Tree to know for sure.

It's not just Offaly's, but I just despise jerseys that are not symmetrical. Is it just me or do other people feel that if you take out sponsors, crests etc then both sides of a jersey should be a mirror image of each other.

Maybe it's just me but they just look lopsided or something.

What I said more or less. It would be like having no stripes on the back of the Kilkenny jersey. Just a black back.

I prefer no hoop at the back, I thought it improved Tipperary's jerseys. I hope Offaly follow suit, that's a tasty looking design they've proposed.

Don't know why people are surprised over Corks lack of a sponsor. Look whos negotiating it. the players involved in the strikes have all but gone yet the Co. board continue regardless.

They knew since April/May last year that o2 were not going to renew their sponsorship with the teams, but they have only actively been looking for a sponsor since October. Blame for that is laid firmly at the county boards door, and given the advert that has gone out recently its the current secretarys role to sort sponsorship. They are looking for too much money. They announced they would have a sponsor before the league, and now are left looking like idiots. Its costing the board money, they get a percentage of the sale of the merchandise. At this stage, the CCB are looking desperate, which gives the negotiating companies the upper hand.

I'm glad they are supporting such a charity, given Deanos cancer scare a few years ago.

Wouldn't be too gone the Down jersey or the Offaly jersey, latter is an interesting design but I can see why there would be so much opposition to it.

Hey lads was looking on the O'Neills website last night, was looking for the old Antrim jersey and the Down one that had the black sleeves. Neither were available. Anybody know any place else could get them no?

Also the price of jerseys there seemed a bit hefty. €62 for a jersey? Before adding a number and making it player fit which brings it to €72. Bit steep i thought?

Yeah i noticed the slight increase in the price of the jerseys myself.
It used to only be 5 euro for the number back and front, now its 10 euro to get it done.

I think they jersey price increase has only happened in the past few days.
I got one last week and was charged 60 + 10 euro for the printing , so 70 delivered.
Its getting a bit pricey alright, although my county dont change their jersey that much, so i get 2-3 years wear out of it.

P.s you could try the oneills stores by phone to see if they have the jerseys you are looking for in their clearance section.
I was in oneills newry store last weekend and they have a clearance area of old jerseys, kits, tracksuits, rain jackets etc etc.
    You might be in luck.

How come Dublin have a big multi national pumping millions into their game yet some fairly big counties are struggling to get why decent sponsors?

Its not quite to do with the number of people there, it is the level of merchandise sold. Dublin is first, Cork second highest, and we're stuck with no sponsor.

It also has to do with who is negotiating, and the pro activeness of the county board. Dublin have been fantastically proactive with development etc, and companies will pay into that - corporate citizenship and responsibility etc. Dublin is €800,000 a year, plus bonuses, which is a total of 1 million a year. Cork was about €250,000 a year.
