    Leitrim one is a huge improvement on what they've had in recent years!

    That Leitrim green jersey is easily one of the better new jerseys.

    O'Neills are an incredible rip-off these days.

    Fully sublimated, apart form a few counties with an embroidered crest, and they have the cheek to charge €60. The quality isn't any better than a soccer jersey, and they change just as often. They are for all the world on a par with cheap fakes you pick up on holidays, or Man United tops that Dunnes would sell for little over a tenner.

    There is absolutely no excise for charging €60+ for poor fitting, ourdated materials and designs.

    Monaghan havent had a jersey change in years. I'd say they're due something.

    I would agree that €62 is a rip off but the O'Neills jersey's are very good quality. I have a good few of them and they are washed, pulled, stained and abused a lot but look as if they are new. They are 100 times better quality than a soccer jersey.

    The protection of the market by the GAA was always going to lead to O'Neills jacking up the price considering the chokehold they have on the market.

    Impossible for startup Irish brands to compete.

    That Leitrim jersey is one of the nicest released in a while -big improvement on some of their previous efforts too.

    The O'Neills jersies are not really of very good quality. Screen printed. Cheap to produce. There is no comparsion to most soccer jersies made by Adidas or Nike.

    O'Neills were told by the G.A.A. to reintroduce the embroidered crest there just a few years ago.

    You were not getting value for money with the screen printed crest.

    Would embroidered crests last as long though? They're also a bit awkward if they're big. And on shorts, I think they look way nicer if the crest is incorporated on to the sides in print form rather than those stiched on stripes and an embroidered crest at the front.

    About the jersey's, I think the nicest one was probably Louth's except for that the sponsor logo really takes away from it. Tyrone's jersey is also an example of the logo taking away from a great jersey. Antrim's new one is nice too. And as has been stated, Leitrim's one is top notch too.

    Offaly's is nice at the back. The only time I'd really be open to hoops being observed at the back is if there are several of them. In three colour jerseys in particular, and with many two colour combinations it looks poor. The example has already been made about Tipp, Offaly is another. I do think that there is way too much yellow on the front of the Offaly jersey.

    Why more teams don't adopt patterns similar to the Cork goalkeeper's jersey I don't understand. It looks unreal. But by and large, I'd argue that designs have improved an awful lot in the last 10 years.

    That is predominantly because I am young and not much of a tradionalist of course.

    I prefer the embriodered crest/coat of arms on the jersey!

    Handwash them, that way the crest will not go all wonky.

    O'Neills made most crests smaller. There is no 'feel' to the jersey with screen printed crests. For 62.00 euro a pop they would want to have embroidered crests.

    I do not like the collarless jersies.

    The Leitrim jersey would look better with the O'Neill's stripes on the sleeves.

    The Bush Hotel sponsor's yellow and green bushes are more like blobs. They look terrible.

    Might be better with a medium in that case I'd say personally.

    Small is 28" and medium would be 30" and 32".

    I would have thought medium would be 32"-34"?

    Well I wear 30" and they are too big and I wouldn't be that small. You could be right though, I'm only guessing really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Connorzee

    Small is 30-32, medium is 32-34, large is 34-36 etc... Im a 32 (on a good day) 34 waist in jeans and would wear small in the shorts. Newer o'neills shorts are slightly longer than the older (3 or 4 years ago with the logo printed down the sides) ones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭mooonpie

    According to the O'Neills rep we were dealing with before Christmas:
    Small = 32"
    Medium = 34"
    Large = 36"

    and the sizes on the shorts will be 32, 34 etc. Not sure why the website doesn't explain that

    That Leitrim jersey is tidy, a good effort from O Neills.

    The Sperrin design togs tend to be a slimer or narrower fit these days. You may need to go the next size up. Just take that into consideration when choosing size.

    have O'Neills increased their sizes in leisurewear recently?

    I usually take a large in hoodies or zip-up tops

    got a large hoodie yesterday as a present. I'm swimming in it
    will have to go back to medium.

    No. The other way around. Slimmer fitting gear now. Standard with most clothes too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 180 ✭✭newg300

    I'm a medium and had to buy a small in a few things over the last year from O'Neills. Even at that, the hoodies are very baggy.

    Not sure it does, the Kildare shirt doesn't have red trim and the sponsors are quite different.

    Agreed, O'Neills sizes have always been weird. I'm a small in tshirts normally but the sleeves of the O'Neills small are baggy. I'd prob get into an O'Neills 13/14 yrs polo or tshirts. Jumpers and hoodies then I'd be a medium in because the small is too small.

    anybody know if there'll be a chance to do this swap at any location in Dublin or will it always be at league games and shops in Galway itself?

    Yeah they wore it against Limerick last week - well for the first half anyway, changed for the second half as the plain green back was causing confusion.

    Not on there because it has never been worn, not sure what the story is with it. Was featured in the launch pics at the end of 2010 but no sign of it since, not even as a GK change (red has been used instead)

    They have gone for the Munster Provincial colours of Royal blue. But, what happens if they ever end up playing Kerry? Both teams wear a dominant green first choice jersey and Kerry usually change to royal blue too. Kerry also have a third choice white jersey, as do Limerick.

    There is really only a need for one county team to change. The team playing at home should not have to change their jersey aswell, yet both teams always seem to change under G.A.A. rules.

    Actually I think the rule in GAA is that the home team has to change to a second jersey (opposite to soccer, which is probably the exact reason for the rule). In inter-county games both teams usually change, but in club games that's not always possible.

    Actually now I think of it, one reason for the home team having to change could be that often it's only when they take the field that you realise there's a problem, especially at junior level. We showed up once in white and the opposition had to switch jerseys. Stands to reason that in that situation the home team are more likely to have another set of jerseys around I suppose.

    Same rule in rugby, the home team changes.

    The second reason is historically correct Realt Dearg, the home side would have found it easier to come by a change set when a clash occurred.

    In the GAA, it seems to be that both teams change for championship and generally the home side for league games, though there have been plenty examples of both changing or just the away side doing so.

    When teams with the same change colours meet in the championship, a coin is tossed (eg Cork v Louth 2007, Wicklow v Cavan in 2009 and 10). In other instances, counties may have an agreement, such as Derry changing shirts and Tyrone changing shorts when they meet - though now that Tyrone are permanently all-white this might change.

    One rugby area where this has changed in recent times is the Heineken Cup, with the away sides now changing.
