But back on topic, i think i read somewhere that O'Neills consider it 4 stripes and not 3 to get around the Adidas copyright. They count the white as dividing the colours. Like in a cork jersey with 3 white stripes, they consider the red being the stripes

Back in the early 1980s Adidas took O'Neills to court here in Ireland over O'Neills using three stripes on their jersies. O'Neills won as the court ruled that Adidas was not a very well known brand here at the time and so could use three stripes. As far as I know the ruling still stands.

Ah- here's the citation: Adidas v Charles O'Neill and Co Ltd 1983 ILRM 112

Did a bit of research and thats correct. O'Neills cant sell/export the jerseys with the 3 stripes outside of Ireland, hence their "international versions" of county jerseys which have 2 stripes that can be sent abroad.

That Longford top is one sexy jersey. I may just take the plunge and buy it even though I am a hardcore Dubs supporter and it won't see much action beyond June:D

I believe so- but maybe Adidas had copyright on "the three stripes" and felt it would hold sway here?

    New Carlow jersey:

I really don't like it, far too much green and not enough red. It's like a Kerry jersey with red sleeves from the back.

Carlow originally had a hooped 'Lansdowne Rugby' like design of their jersey but it altered over the years i believe.
In terms of team psychology it might be a clever move to change the design but i preferred the traffic light design.

Yes similar to that. Looking at the cork club section on pride in the jersey.com alot of the clubs down there like the famous Glen Rovers go for that design (albeit with different colours)

    Fairly odd looking.

The more I see that jersey the more it looks like a one off for the Dublin game.

Where is the GAA logo and it also seems to be made by Elverys as well as sponsored by them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Saint_Mel

Think I read somewhere that Westmeath are looking for new sponsor so I presume they will have a new jersey.

Polo tshirts with the Hilmar sponsor are being sold off in Elverys on the cheap now

Waterford will also have a new jersey out in february so i hear:)

Dublin will be bringing out a new one also.

AFAIK cork bringing out a new one too, the old one has been around a few years now.

I'd say he's on the money - lot of shops here selling off the jersey at 25 euro - always a sign of a new one coming out. Unusual, since they brought out the 2010 final jersey as well, you'd think they'd get another season out of it

Id take that as an indication that o2 or o'neills might be gone with the former being most likely in my opinion.

mobile companies tend to review their sponsorship every so often however o2's partnership with Cork has being in place over a decade now if you count the esat digifone days.

Cant see those Mayo ones going ahead. sure the gaa logo isnt even on them. A mere proposal from one of your arty farty designers with no knowledge of the game id say. would make nice leisure wear i think though. Would be surprised if dublin didnt release a new shirt ahead of the new season though i thought it would be out for christmas. that said they are trying to flog a new book 'a rare oul sunday' and with the tough economic times in place maybe they felt the time isnt right.

I hope Waterford bring out a more simplistic and non fussy effort then the current shirt and its predecessors though O'Neills are getting back into this asymetric habit and plastering the county name in irish and the crest all over the shirt as if we need reminding.

I don't think thats it because i saw one in the paper where it was all green except the shoulders and sleaves.

just like to comment the Carlow crest is the worst crest i have ever seen on any jersey ever its pure sh*te

Don't counties usually release mock up of their jerseys before they know who will make them? I would assume that Elvery's would have a big say in who makes the Mayo jersey, but would also assume that they need to put something where the manufacturers logo would go. Also, I don't notice a space for the number on the front of the Mayo jersey, afaik all new jerseys have to have this

totally agree. its like it was designed in a primary school competition. carlow should be using the likes of browneshill dolmen as their symbol like we in Tipp use the Rock of Cashel and likewise im surprised KK dont use the Castle as their symbol or at least a Cat

do you honestly think that someone in primary school, as young as they are, would make a crest so bad

I would tend to call bulls**t on the Elverys Mayo jersey for a number of reasons but the main reason being that Elverys aren't an approved supplier of GAA playing gear according to the link below. That is if as indicated by the mock-up they are the manufacturer.

lol sure what am i saying. At least more imagination would go into it if a primary school student designed it.

Does anyone actually know if Dublin will release a new jersey for next season. They were wearing their current one yesterday in the Blue stars games

Early doors yet. Dublin normally dont bring out a new shirt until at least midway through the league.

Re Cork, no new jersey on the way as far as I know, they usually have three-year lifespans.

From what I can gather, the Mayo one is designed by Elverys but will be manufactured by O'Neills. A one-off shirt for a league game is one of the silliest notions I've heard

Hey guys.. Firstly thanks for the info re the three lines.. I was only discussing that with a friend a while ago as we were wondering how o'neills got away with it! Love the fact that they won the right in court! Brilliant!
I'm hoping that the dubs bring out a new jersey this year mainly because I really dislike the vodafone logo.. I think the red logo really takes away from the jersey. My favorite jersey is still the one Bernard brogan is wearing in the link on the first page and IMHO the jerseys since then haven't been anywhere near as nice. Anyone know if vodafone will stay on as sponsor??

  • Registered Users Posts: 753 ✭✭✭denishurley

It would make far more sense colour-wise if Cork and Dublin swapped sponsors. When Vodafone sponsored Clare the logo was blended into the colourway but I suppose they were able to call the shots with Dublin as they were in a strong bargaining position

Vodafone have another few years yet.

I can now confirm Dublin will now NOT bring out a new jersey this year.

Read the posts in context please.

There was plans afoot to bring out a new one, then it was decided not to.

Maybe the fact it wasn;t out for the Christmas market was a give away.

Thanks for reading, and maybe I could draw you a picture next time ;)

Nice to see that Azzurri are using their 'A' logo on this jersey. Makes it a little less O'Neill's looking. Hope they roll this out on all their new jerseys.
