What made them "irish jobs"? They're a business, perhaps they should go on the way the likes of Sean Quinn did, then you'd be happier maybe? I was referring to their decency to Dublin players and backroom staff, but feel free to climb up on your high horse nonetheless.

O'Neills promoting Dublin jerseys as Christmas presents today. Selling them 3 for 2. Does that mean we won't see the new Dublin jersey until the new year?

No there just getting rid of the old stock

Bit misleading sending customers an email of a Christmas promotional offer if there's going to be a new jersey out in time for Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭Justin10

Its called business, its not just on the Dublin jersey its on all county jerseys.

They're selling ALL county jerseys 3 for 2, doesn't mean there's a new jersey at all.

I know they are but they can tailor their emails to cater for who they are sending them to. So this morning I got an email marketing the 3 for 2 offer on the dublin jerseys as a Christmas promo.

Now we all know that Dublin have had the same jersey for three seasons so we are expecting and indeed looking forward to the release of a new jersey for next season.

However some don't know this and might go and purchase the current jersey from O'Neills and be left ending up have to fork out for the new jersey be it released this side of Christmas or in the new year

Following a change in sponsorship, we have another new jersey - our third jersey of 2012.

Wow that's a super looking jersey.

I don't like the star system in operation for GAA jerseys. That Meath one has way too many, it takes away from the glory of the Star.

You win one all ireland you get a star. 10 you have 2, 20 gets you 3, 30 for 5 and 40 for 5.

Like the system in Italian football. Much nicer I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,789 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

In Italy a couple of teams use stars to represent each ten league titles they've won. Having one star for one All Ireland and two for ten All Irelands makes no sense.

Then adopt that system so. You need to win an 10 All Ireland's to get a star.

The way stars are thrown about on GAA jerseys at the moment cheapens the value of the star.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭Justin10

Or maybe not use a star

or in increments of 5 - that would be great :)

That Armagh jersey is a seriously nice jersey.. and the meath one looks well too even though I thought it would look daft with a Tayto Park logo..

But the point is there is no value of the star in the GAA. It's just a decorative thing it has no significance what so ever.

New Meath and Armagh jerseys are class to be fair. I got an email today saying Cork jerseys 3 for 2. Why would you buy one never mind three when a new one is coming out soon. Tyrone will be sponsored by Hunky Dorys.

The Celtic rings on the collar of last year's Kerry jersey are the same idea - one ring for every All Ireland won. I'm pretty sure someone else started the stars a couple of years ago but can't quite remember who.

    Right, but rings aren't stars.

So to reiterate my question, are Meath the only ones who use the stars? I cant recall any others right now?

Am I the only one who really doesn't like the new Meath jersey?
Don't like the chequered pattern. Reminds me of Man Utd's jersey this season. Also not sure about the font of An Mhí on the back.

New Meath jersey is class jealous as **** lol!!!

Wish o'neills would try something with Kildare jersey even similar to meaths jersey would be lovely.

Only Kildare jersey I like is keepers away shirt this year unfortunately and that's lime green lol

I never realised that counties were putting stars on their jerseys to represent All-Ireland wins. In that case, the new Kilkenny jersey would resemble something like this.....

I think you'll find Kerry don't have the same thing, they have a design on the collar with some rings, subtle, tasteful, this is a star for each All Ireland won, if Kerry were to do that they'd look like an American flag. You have to admire the classy way Kerry have gone about it. Others could learn from it.

You find concentric circles a more tasteful geometric shape than five pointed stars, good for you. Good discussion.

Continuing the crisp sponsored GAA theme Tyrone have announced they are to be sponsored by Hunky Dorys.

You're the one who brought up circles, I was asking about stars.

Stars are commonly used and have a history of such going back in other sports, but not in this one.

Introducing stars has been done by two counties with barely a title to rub together in a sport with no history of doing so. Its like Leinster displaying 3 stars on their crest in rugger, classless.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,465 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Christ, why do people get so worked up about what counties put on their jerseys? If Meath and Tyrone want to put stars on their jerseys, then what business is it of anyone's?
Also, "barely a title to rub together"? Only three teams have more All Ireland Football titles than Meath.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 595 ✭✭✭cormac halpin

Only three teams have more All Ireland Football titles than Meath.
And how many of those three teams have stars on their shirt?

And what does that have to do with what I posted? You stated Meath have "barely a title to rub together" (I'm not sure how you can rub a singular object together, but I digress), I merely showed that what you posted was rubbish.

As far as I'm aware, there is no rule which states a county cannot put stars on their jersey. I'm not for it and I'm not against it. Mainly because it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Hammer I personally think if Meath want to symbolise success in teams from past then why shouldn't they..

It is meaths history and as one of footballs most successful counties why shouldn't they be proud of their teams and success.

We know someone is here to try wining people up instead of contributing. Calling counties classless says something to me about someone.. CLASSLESS...

I wouldn't mind having a jersey like meaths new one it is a great design..

Good luck in league btw I expect Meath and Monaghan to be coming straight out of division 3.

What you're saying is you have no problem with Kerry's circles, but a massive problem with Meath and Tyrone's stars.

Which seems weird until we employ some clever text adjustments to get to the heart of the issue:

What you're saying is you have no problem with Kerry's circles, but a massive problem with Meath and Tyrone's stars.

AM I right in saying Meath were the first county to put these stars on their shirts and Tyrone then followed suit? Will Donegal do it I wonder now they have two?

Kildare are gonna throw 4 stars on our next jersey I reckon..

Or new sponsor could be ---

    4 star pizza

This escaped our radar but Tegral have ended the Kildare deal so they could possibly have a new shirt next year.

    From Leinster leader

    TEGRAL PULL THE PLUG!

    Published on Tuesday 16 October 2012 12:01

Tegral have announced they are to cease sponsorship of Kildare GAA.

The news broke yesterday (Monday) morning after a press released was issued on behalf of the Athy based company by Walsh PR.

“Everyone within and associated with Tegral is sharing the burden of the diminished business situation and unfortunately our sponsorship programme also has to be curtailed,” said Paddy Kelly, Tegral’s Managing Director.

He added: “We have supported the Kildare footballers from the Mick O’Dwyer era right through to the present day and were proud to be involved when the senior footballers won the Leinster Championship in 1998 and 2000 and reached the All-Ireland final in 1998. Also during our sponsorship both the Under 21s and juniors won two Leinster titles each. We will support the Kildare County Board in seeking to find a replacement sponsor,” said Mr Kelly.

The news couldn’t have come at a worse time for Kildare GAA, who find themselves in a precarious financial position. They must now go in search of new main sponsor.

It is believed Tegral gave the county board in excess of E100,000 per year since assuming the role of main sponsor.

It was one of the longest running sponsorship deals in the GAA, however, the company have been facing difficulties due to the collapse of the construction industry.

There are 110 people currently employed in Tegral in Athy but many of those workers are on part time hours. At its height in 2007 there were more than 300 people employed by the Kildare company. It’s E75m expansion to a new site on Stowland Road in Athy has also been on postponed for a number of years.
