PM Abuse Query

Just wondering, what is the typical punishment for someone who sends you abuse via PM? And if it's reported, is there a way of checking if it has been followed up on? (Not that it wouldn't, but just to see what action was taken).

    Thanks :)

It would depend on the content of the PM. Sanctions range from profile warnings, infractions right across to temporary or permanent site bans - depending on the content.

You have no way of finding out what punishment (if any) has been meted out except to ask here in the Help Desk if the reported PM has been seen and actioned.

There is no typical punishment, it all depends on the severity of the content. We often get reported PMs from people who are hugely offended by something that was said, but which is in fact pretty tame and inconsequential. In those cases we'll often do nothing. For more serious cases of abuse sitebans are issued ranging from anywhere between a week and permanent, depending on what's deemed necessary. We don't follow up reported PMs with the reporter once action has been taken for two reasons - 1) While we appreciate the PM being reported, all infractions/bans are purely a matter between the individual who sent the PM and the admins; and 2) We get a lot of reported PMs and there's a lot of other stuff that needs to be done without adding PMing the people who reported the abuse to the list of tasks.
