As said prevously D2D, I really hope your situation improves and if you need to vent feel free to via pm or off topic. I will do the last draw and if I can try and help out with any draft decisions that need to be made so you dont have to.

Secondly At the end of this years draft we will have a retrospective seing what did or didnt go wrong so I wont focus too much on all that now although I guess after the stip round that didnt happen things were soured a little. 1 suggested way to improve next year has been having more rules in place (although as GJ said above not stricter run), rules which have cropped up and will be under discussion later among others will be

trade rules (Tag team limit, trading celebs etc)
    announcer rule
fcw guys (are they eligable if they havent fought in WWE)
after the 24hr rule is passed (clarification to be made on what happens)
Stip rounds (whats the general consensus on how these should be handeld and what grey areas have stip rounds brought up thus far)
Managers / contraversial picks (Bockwinkel/Heenan, picking people who never wrestled but were active parts of the show)

either way after we discuss these among other suggestions at the end, next years draft should have a lot less gray areas removed which would hopefully mean less problems.

Flah dropping out, I honestly dont think had anything to do with the draft but tbh I dont know and im just guessing that the rubbish that occured with him on the soccer board plus the absence of Ger C would have made it easier for him to leave boards in general and not just the draft.

The termonology some are using also seems to have gotten to others for instance I among other refered to people taking this more serious than usual this year at points in this thread. However I dont think i phrased it correctly as tbh taking it serious is a good thing and many have imo taken that to equal a nasty competitive streak which it is not. People just want the draft to be a level playing field so everyone has an equal chance to be able to write competing shows. I really dont think too many are bothered if they win this or not (i know im not) but nobody wants their shows which they put a lot of effort into, looking bad compared to others because they havent had the same chances as them for whatever reasons.

Have a new found respect for the job MNG/Gimmick did running this before although i've a feeling this year has hit more hurdles than previous incarnations. I still really enjoy writting these shows though and hope to continue to do so in many many more drafts. I hope people dont have a knee jerk reaction to this years draft and deny themselves the opportunity to enjoy it again in the future too especially seing as I think much of the issue has been a snowball effect of people's comments about over competitiveness or whatever leading to others who had before had no issues having negative thoughts about this year.

    third BWA show is up...

Campo: really loving Eddie v Piper again and the introduction of Vickie this week as great.

Groutch: Must say a write up with Aeries & Lethal headlining it really is refreshing for me and sticks out. Still wondering if you will book Foley in a match for your PPV though

I might as well be honest with ye about me and the draft this year.

As ye know, myself and BH have been doing our best on running the draft this year, in place of MNG who decided last year was his last year running it. I thought it'd be a laugh, seeing as how well my previous 2 drafts have gone and the overall laid back style of the PW board.

However, this year has been different for me for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I'm kinda going through some....erm..... problems lately that's affecting me. This is really limiting me in the draft (creating storylines/giving feedback/trying to write shows etc....). Secondly is the fact that I'm not really finding the draft any fun this year. I'm happy with the rosters everyone has but I'm seriously worried with the amount of drop-outs/people who are taking it waayyy too seriously. Tbh, this is weird for me to say but I'm really regretting about taking part this year:(

I'm gonna stick it out now seeing as we are in Round 14 but I feel like I'm gonna struggle with the PPV write-up.

Sorry to hear that D2D but yourself and BH are doing a top job this year running the draft

Pick made, but can someone PM mng for me please?

In relation to the voting at the end, how about we do some "end of draft awards"?
Like 5 or 6 categories that we can vote on; best usage of a wrestler, best undercard feud, best writer, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

No worries I'm about. No need for a PM. I'll pick shortly.

In regards to the game, I don't feel the game has been played in a poor spirit this year. People were passionate about the controversial stip round but I don't recall it ever getting personal.

People dropping out is always a pity and I hope those who did so take part in the discussion following the game as any criticisms can only improve things going forward.

I would point out though that as I recall in the second draft game we did in '09, we finished with something like 13 or 14 rosters so it's not like it's always been plain sailing. I think BH and D2D have been fair and reasonable throughout.

If I was to have one criticism of the game it's that I think there was a lack of communication at times. It's best to talk about this after the game probably but I would maintain any stip needs to be OK'd first with the game organisers and I believe that was the heart of the problem with the much talked about stip round. As the saying goes a divided house cannot stand and I think there needs to be a clear direction.

I don't see problems with the rules I just think there needs to be an assurance that means the goalposts cannot be shifted, which is what I think a lot of people felt happened in the round mentioned.
    third BWA show is up...

I'm liking this heel Rey story and how you mentioned the fans feeling he wasn't deserving when he first got the World Title. Hassan/Jarrett continues to stand out too along with the Hunter/Bryan angle. Also enjoying Monsoon's promos. Will you stop!

Groutch: I'm still enjoying the old-school Haystacks angle and I liked the promo for Dude Love. Looking forward to the next one.

I've been travelling so haven't really being on this thread much but hopefully will get my third show together soon.

It's a shame to see some people have dropped out. The draft seemed to going very fast (compared to other years) but it's slowed down a lot the last couple of rounds, which maybe led some people to lose interest. A possible suggestion for future years would be for people to have two picks at a time towards the end just to speed things up and make sure people don't lose interest after the 11th or 12th round! That's all I can think of right now anyway.

The prospects of a long awaited, long built up, Hogan-Sheamus match at the first PWF PPV are under threat due to some backstage politics. According to the Wrestling Observer, Hulk Hogan is refusing to drop the belt to anyone other than Mean Street Posse man Pete Gas, who he has formed an allicane with backstage. Despite Shane's protestations that Gas might not be quite ready to lead the company, Hogan is adament. He outright refuses to put Sheamus over, saying the Irishman is too pale to be champion and doesn't deserve it.

Ultimately, Hogan is failing to understand why he can't just be champion forever "like the fans want." Chairman Shane-O-Mac is worried that Hulkamania is losing its touch and maybe its time to move on before more fans become disullioned. Shane tried to explain that wrestling isn't real and he shouldn't take it personally or let losing hurt his pride. Hogan seemed baffled and couldn't get his around this idea, saying that winning scripted wrestling matches is all that matters to him. With Hulk's Creative Control clause in his contract any chance of him losing the belt to Sheamus anytime soon looks unlikely.

Meanwhile, Sheamus does not want to lose to an old fogey like Hogan. He claims he was promised the championship when he signed up and has threatened to join a rival federation unless the title is around his waist in the next few weeks.

Shane doesn't want to resort to the "make nobody happy" WWE-style compromise of a double-disqualification, for his first ever PPV main event. He wants a decisive winner!

The real-life issues are sure to add fire to the on-screen rivalry between the two. But we'll have to wait and see whether this rivalry will make it's way to the squared circle.

Massive lull in the game at the moment. Round 14 was posted well over a week ago. Hopefully we are in the final round for the weekend.

In the meantime here's some thoughts on recent write-ups:

groutch - You're keeping us on our toes by using Foley's different characters which I think is good. Nice promo for Boss Man too.

Liz - Liked the Otunga promo and character and very interested in the women's match you've set up for WrestleMayhem.

Spongey - Great first show. Love the beat the clock idea. Liked Barrett's hell promo and crazy Ron Simmons too. Excellent ending to the show as well. Big thumbs up.

Just added my third show. Went very long. Feedback good or bad welcome.

Think I'll do 4 shows this year instead of 5 as they are time consuming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,365 ✭✭✭campo

Just some feedback on the last coupe of shows that I read

    Bounty Hunter

You have built up HHH vs Danielson very well and the stable of Jarrett and WGTT is a great stable plus having them attacking foreigners is edgy but would make for very topica viewing.
Turning Rey Mysterio heel was genius , When I had him I had no idea what to do with as he is the total babyface but turning him heel as added a new dimension to him.

    JP Liz

Your show reminds me a lot of 1st season of NXT which is not a bad thing
you might not have the biggest names but you have great characters

    Spongey

What a great show I loved the beat the clock angle and your roster is so strong and used so well, Wade Barrett and Ron Simmons so far are my too favorite guys in your show

    MNG

1 WORD AMAZING....Yes an Amazing show with an amazing roster you be very tough to beat this year, No wonder you did not want to lose HBK he has been used so well

will try and give some feedback when i get a chance to read it man.

About Horsebox, He missed his previous go and missed the chance to have a makeup pick at which time he hadnt been online in around 4 days iirc, someone earlier posted that he has again not been on for around this much time so it is obviously a serious possibility that he might miss his go and we will potentially have to decide what to do with his participation if he misses out on his makeup pick this time too. I'd assume he got a pm when it was his go this time and i pmd him about the make up pick last time so that shouldnt be an issue.

If it comes to it I may put up another poll to decide but what do you think we should do this year if someone cannot continue. Find another alternate at this late stage, raffle off his roster, make them available for the final round or make those picks off limit, what do you guys think?

I would vote for raffle similar to what we did with Pingu as that made it a bit interesting to see who we got

never thought about that option actually, Im sure thatd be the easiest option assuming you wanted to again and that nobody would object to it (infact id guess itd be the opposite.

Will the last round draw go up today?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,890 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Ill be online for the next few hours id assume and if we get through a few picks it will probably be up today but with the speed we would be going tommorow would be more likely. Considering im in shaghai though and therefore several hours ahead, id guess it would be up from whenever you start your day tommorow anyway

edit: Volt is next (an co-incidentally he is the other person who missed his go last time) so if someone could pm him when the time limit is passed it could help too.

I can't say I'm not tempted; when I saw Horse was gone, I did think of saying I'd jump back in. But the truth is the motivation hasn't really come back. There's no way I'd write what needs to be written, unless I just did it for the sake of doing it, which is the reason I dropped out initially. So nothing is changed there really. Sorry :/

It's a shame though. I don't want to see the nWo spilt up, or Brock/Bobby cut or anything like that :( If there is a raffle though, can I help orgnaise it? Maybe try and come up with some special way of doing it (as in distrubiting people based on who could fit into which roster best, and other stips?).

If you decide on doing a raffle then count me out of it. It's too late in the draft to try and figure out where someone like Lesnar would fit in my plans that I've had for the last month. I'm happy enough with my roster despite its lack of star power. Whatever you decide on can you make it quick? It feels like forever this draft is going on and it's really starting to get boring when you're lucky to be making one pick a week.

I think its too late to raffle off his picks. I know in my case i have my plans set in stone and dont want to consider changing that to bring in someone from somebody's roster.

I think we should leave their rosters be (Horsebox and Volt). If they get back here then i'll be for letting them make catch up picks to complete their rosters. If they dont then nobody else gets their picks and we'll be two men down for the PPV write ups

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

I have no objections to people getting wrestlers from someone who has dropped out.
But I'm happier myself as I am.
I've both my last house show and ppv all planned out in my head, and if I was to take part in a raffle like that, I'd have to chop & change too much to fit in whoever I got.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    I'd be inclined to agree.

It's rare that everyone finishes the game so I'd say at this late stage put the roster out of the game if the participants can't continue. My plans are likewise sorted and a big star name would really screw things up.

Also folks are we able to move on to the next pick now? Last pick was Wednesday at 5 p.m. so that's over two days ago.

I agree with glenjamin that these delays could prove really detrimental if they continue. I'd suggest sending PMs to Volt and Horse asking them to reply by Monday at the latest on whether they wish to continue as we really need to crack on.

    Partial stip round

In this round you first pick your promotions final personally selected draft pick, then you make a draft on behalf of the person places above you in the order of the draw. No.1 will make a pick for no.20s roster.

for instance I drew no.6 here so id make my pick then draft no.5s (Campo's) final pick before getting my final pick made for me by the no.7 picker (Liz)

does that mean we get two wrestlers in this round?

so is it now my go?

i'd no idea that it might be my go.

i pick for myself, then for Walt?

Will try and do so but this stip being at the end should mean that most should have no worries about who they get drafted for them as they wouldn't have expected another wrestler for their card. Instead we might see more storyline / comedy potentially enhancing drafts for rosters or enhancement talent / T&A

Casandro is one I wanted right from the start but figured I could leave until the end, and I'm glad I was right :)

Hope you can use Candino Spongey, a guy I was close to taking a few times myself!
