Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Guys,
Is it practical for a farmer to go away and rent the gas barrells and buy the regulators that are used for gas welding, heating metal etc for on farm repair jobs?

And if not what is a good alternative for heating nuts and bolts which are seized?

    Cheers

ordinary house hold gas bottle and a blow lamp to go on to it.
dose the job grand. and cheap esp if you use gas in house anyways.

Best ever liberator of stuck nuts etc, is liberal application of brake fluid. It eats through corrosion!

I melt candle wax onto the stuck nut with a small gas torch that you can buy in any hardware store. Candle wax will work its way into the threads of the bolt, works every time.

What I find great too, is to give the nuts a slap with a lump hammer at the start. The shock of it does wonders. Also use a heavy duty socket, the impact type and the biggest drive possible, i.e 3/4" instead of 1/2" etc. Use a long bar on the socket and while levering it, get someone else to to hit the bar on the top a few inches from the socket. The vibration from the shock always seems to work better than brute force.

If you can get the part near the workshop, and weld a spot or two to the nut, the sudden burst of heat will make the nut expand and larger on the thread,
    works most times...........

These are a feckin lifesaver, ours is geared 35:1, takes 35 turns of the lever before the socket makes 1 full turn, can turn it with your fingertips,

Buy a oxy bottle secondhand , youll get one for around e100 .
If you know anybody with a garage or in construction with a permit get them to fill it.
Ordinary house hold gas mixed will do for heating, but wont weld.

They're more properly known as a 'Torque Multiplier'; 'Nutcracker' is a brand name.
