On Line Credit Card Protection

I have Microsoft security essentials on my PC, will that protect me when I purchase the likes of airline tickets etc by credit card, if not what should I use. Thanks in advance

Na it probably wont unless it has a specific "credit card" mode which is pretty unlikely.

If you are using your credit card online, always try make sure the website is using the prefix HTTPS/ and not HTTP://

Thanks ASJ112 I am using windows vista, I always make sure when using my credit card that the lock is in place so hopefully should be ok. I was just wondering if credit card transactions were secure with the Windows security .

Short answer = maybe.

Longer answer...
There are a number of factors here.
1. Is the vendor a known, trusted vendor (Amazon etc.) , or some fly-by-night type.
2. Is their SSL cert valid? Has it been issued by a trusted authority.
3. Are you end-to-end encrypted with this valid SSL cert? Making CC payments over open wifi or a work network, where you are uncertain, is a bad idea.
4. Is your machine free of malware, keyloggers etc.

I also generally use paypal for CC payments to provide an extra layer of separation.
