Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hi there i used prosovlen (sp) its an alternative to estrumate and alot cheaper, injected 8 heifers on wednesday and all 8 have been in heat, injected 10 cows and got 8 heats, i only injected once with 2cc.... got the 2 cows handled that didnt come with the jab and they have cidr's in them now

Prostaglandin which is the hormone in estrumate etc will work well with double shot 11 days apart provided that the animals are cycling. ususally only recommended for heifers. 1ml instead of the recommended 2ml works 100% thus making this a very cheap option. Inject heifers day 0 then inject again on day 11, AI 12 hour after first expression of heat or else set time AI at 72 and 96 hours.

Cidres etc are better option for cows post calving. This s a more expensive option for heifers.

the advise is more or less bang on for heifers
just beware if it is in young heifers they may not actually be cycling
my only comment on the prostaglandin route is that using estrumate will tend to have females on heat 12 hrs or so earlier than the alternatives such as prosolvin due th the specific analogue used in both and the manner in which it is metabolised buy the animal.
also its cheaper to buy in bulk as opposed to indivudal 2ml bottles which vets perfer to sell (usually to abort females ....makes sense that way)
    if its for cows
if its cows how long calved ?
    dairy or beef?

was reckoning all the heifers and anything calved over 40 days. would that be alright?

will there be any issues with fertility the years following a synchronisation...?

Never heard it suggested. Synchronisation mimics the normal physiological processes, just takes control of the timing of it.

is it beef cows (over 40 days) ? if so the shot of prostaglandin is a waste of time as it is likely they are not cycling therefore the shot will be ineffective, you will need to go the prid/cidr route with them as they need progesterone priming to commence cycling at that stage
