yep was in there last week. Got a pair of Saucony's. They have a good selection of footwear for runners.

The lads working there know what they are on about. The lad that was helping me has run a few marathons so he was able to give some good advice.

    I'd recommend it.

Cheers for that.Any ideas of opening hours etc...

Yep was in there last week myself, good selection of proper runners there. Lads in there seem to know their stuff, great to have this option so i dont have to travel 2 cork or waterford 2 get a decent pair of runners.

I don't know if this is allowed, but I started brehon sports 3 weeks ago. It's open tue-sat, 10-6. We're physios and we run ourselves. I'll say no more as I don't want to get done for advertising on my first visit.

    good plan :)

But seriously - providing information on request to regular posters* is fine. (But don't take the piss)
Starting a new thread to tell us about special offers or anything like that - not allowed.

    * regular posters, this is very important. I'm afraid the presumption is that new posters raving about a shop/product/event are not legit.

Great to have a shop like so local.Must head out for a gander the weekend maybe.
Good to see a range of footwear rather than a measly selection like some places...

First of all, best of luck with the new venture.Secondly, what type of gait analysis do you do and do you have any late opening?

  • Registered Users Posts: 36 Deego01

Thanks for the good will, very much appreciated. We open till 6, inc Saturdays. We're a mixture of chartered physios and physical therapists and we have a full scale gym to run you in, and not on a treadmill. I'm not being a smart ass but the best technology for gait analysis is to eyeball the person running yourself. I prescribe orthotics here (I'm chartered) so the other lads and I know what to look for. Basically the runner gets a shortened version of a full orthotic assessment. I hope this helps.

cant recommend these guys highly enough. They really know their stuff and are an absolute pleasure to deal with. Great range of gear as well, from top of the range clothes to really cool bags. If you are passing its well worth a visit, looking forward to their 'climbing wall' being finished :)

Thanks, we're getting great support locally. A saturday morning run is on the cards for the new year, for beginners as well. We're hoping that the more experienced local guys will encourage the newer runners along. Already have twenty or so interested and thats without broadcasting it. All welcome. A couple of issues with insurance need sorting but we got a good contact yesterday.

Seeing as how I started this thread,I said I must really add this. I gave this shop a visit today. I travelled from Kilkenny, took about an hour, and was greeted by Geraldine.I had to wait a short while to meet one of the guys, who was with another client.I put this time to good use, checking out the selection of gear,as you do,and was even offered coffee. When Sean arrived to deal with me,we had a brief chat,I had an old pair of runners on which he took a look at,and within 2 mins,he could tell me,without me telling him, that I was on the outside of my right foot, possibly due to a toe problem.Im still looking at the shoes and cant see how he could tell:confused:Anyways, from there,he put me on a foot scanner which told him I was neutral.I had this done before in a high st sports shop and was told I was an over pronator:eek:.
After that,I was brought into an examining room, where he found I had a 1.5cm leg length discrepency. With a little stretch that he showed me,that was sorted:D.
Then it was into the mini gym where I did a little run whilst he eyeballed, did a few high leg steps over obstacles to check balance etc. After this, there was no doubt to him that I was as neutral as neutral could be.(Ive had gait done in 2 different high st shops and was told in both that I over pronated).
After that,it was into the shop where I tried a few different pairs of shoes. There was no sales push on any one shoe over the other and it was made sure that I was 100% happy with the shoe that I eventuallly chose.
So to sum up,I couldnt recommend Brehon Sports highly enough.A very professionally run shop, run by physios, who run.
P.S. I am in no way affiliated to this shop or any of the people who run it.
Again, big thanks to Sean and Geraldine, ill keep ye posted.

You were wearing Kayanos and Brooks beast right? No wonder you were always crocked. I feel sore just wearing Lunarglide3's. Wearing suport shoes if you are a neutral runner will do even more injury than a pronator wearing neutral shoes. Out of interest, who put you in the motion control shoes to start with?

Wasnt in Kayanos, but was in an Asics stability shoe alright,1160's.If i remember correctly,i think the Kayanos were being pushed on me alright as being "the best".I too have the Glide 3's,seeing as I thought I was an over pronator so i guess these are pretty useless also? To answer your question,Elverys, but I reckon you prob had a fair idea of that already;)

I wear motion control shoes,Brooks Beast, and i tell ya there is no doubt when you need them,it is quite obvious that my ankles etc roll all over the place.
Strange you went from an over pronator to a neutral runner, might check these lads out for my next shoe

Sorry I think I had you confused with Dahat.
Lunarglide 3's are still supposed to be ok for neutral runners. Their system of Dynamic suport is only supposed to kick in when you need it. I loved the 2's but can definitely feel a wedge in the midfoot when I wear the 3's.

Not strange in the least. I had gait done previously in two different high st sports shops who obviously hadnt a clue what they were at.Its the difference between having an assessment by a professional over untrained amateurs I guess.

Was thinking of heading up to your place over the next 2 weeks. Looking for a trail shoe for Gale force west and saw that JohnnyCrash seemed to praise you highly.
Was prescribed orthotics years ago for over pronantion but not sure what way my feet are now!! Dont use them in my runners and do suffer from knee pain when I run. Only starting back at running now so might try get it sorted once and for all.

Looking at your website I see you only have a choice of 4 trail shoes so not a wide range and was wondering would it be worth my while as I'm about 90 mins form Cashel.

    Thanks

Amphibian king in Oranmore would have the biggest range of trail shoes I know. It's a little closer than Tipp ;)

Foxirl, what shoes are you running in at the moment, and did you get your orthotics over the counter or from a podiatrist/physio/chiro?

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭foxirl

    Hi,

Got the orthotics about 7 or 8 years ago from a guy in Laois/Offaly. Cant remember his name but he is well known and makes his own orthotics. They are soft spongy type. Wear them in my shoes.

Only started running this year but played a lot of gaa, soccer etc in past and usually end up very sore after a game. Wouldnt be able to fit the orhotics I have in a runner or football boot as it would be very tight.

As I only started running very recently I am using an old pair of new balance cheap runners. I ran 13K last saturday and am might have been to much as I still have pains in my arches from it. Bought a pair of Enduro 7 runners yesterday as they were on sale but havent worn them yet so would be able to return them and get a credit note at very least if I thought that a more expensive pair would sort out my problems.

    Thanks

A couple of things, I always advise people who have orthotics to bring them to the shop with them and select a pair of shoes that fit with the orthotics in them. I'm not allowed to give specific advise on here but i will say that I change my orthotics every 3 years or so and at that stage they do need changing.
The fact you selected a neutral shoe, enduros, to run in without orthotics, I'll throw that one open to the board.
