    Hi,

I have an old fireplace in my bedroom which ive used alot, though recently ive noticed a a slight opening, its not a crack but where two parts meet, thats slightly open. Ive attached a picture.

What im concerned about is starting a fire and somehow flames reach through the gap. Im on the third floor, and there would be another chimney behind it ie. another fireplace in the room directly below.

Ive absolutely no idea about these things but could anyone give me advice, it would be very much appreciated,

    Thanks

i would clean it out of ash etc and fill with fire cement, u can get it in a tube or else a small tub and shove as much in as possible, smooth off and 'cure' with nice small fire:)

Thanks, would this fire cement work on this material, not sure if its cement itself, its a cast iron fireplace, this house is edwardian I think so it could be an original fireplace.

    Thanks again

Yes fire cement will be fine but squeeze it in well and let it harden. A small fire to begin would be good and it will need replacing every so often.
