Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It must be frustrating not to be able to say 'thanks' yet (especially for my photos:P) but I think it happens on post 20

I have been thinking about using a film camera for quite a while now - something to "slow me down" and make me think a little more before I press the shutter.

I recently got my hands on an 17 year old F5. I coupled it with a similiar vintage Nikon lens (they cost me less than 200 euro - I didn't want to use my good lenses on it till I tried it out). Someone gave me some out of date film (about 3 year) and I dug out my 8 year old scanner and decide to give it a try.

36 exposures, no "live view" and cr%p winter light - I haven't been so excited about taking photos in a long time :-).

Two days ago, at the back of the central bank, away from all the festive shoppers, I found this scene in a small, dark corner, where someone had spent the night over Christmas. The light was poor, I had no tripod and the lense was slow - the exposure is 1/8".

The photo's not great, but it achieved its purpose.

    It made me think.....

If its a 17 year old F5 then its the first one ever made. They came out in 1996 so can only be 15, going on 16 at most.

Get some Kodak Porta 800 for winter in Ireland. Beautiful film. If it is an F5 or an F4 put your best lenses on it. No point having one of the greatest cameras made and put crap lenses on it!!!

Pete, I sit corrected. I was basing its age on the info given by the seller! The reason I didn't put my best lenses is that I wanted to make sure it worked first. Having put one roll though it I intend to!

Thanks for the advice on the colour film - what do you suggest for B&W? And any suggestions on the best places to buy - I was thinking of Gunns..

Tape the empty film pack box tightly with black duct tape to the print eject slot so the print comes straight out into the empty box and is protected from the light and try to leave it there for 24 hours before having a look. Project Impossible stuff is fickle and isn't really so instant. Scan it asap then before it starts to fade.

thanks for the tip pete! i really wish polaroid would just start making their film again and not leaving it to others!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

Wouldn't it be easier to go the fuji instax route? €3.25 an image is a rip off, especially knowing how fickle it is.
