Now that the CAO is open to applications, should i be getting mine in there now? Course's are hardly on a first come, first served basis, are they?

    Thanks all:P

Applications are open from Nov 1st to Feb 1st. Online application at http://www.cao.ie is the most straightforward route and apply sooner rather than later as the site can get swamped coming up to the deadline date.

If you are a mature student, i.e you are aged 23 since 1st January 2011 ring the admissions dept of whatever college you are applying for to check what application procedures you have to follow. For some colleges mature students apply directly to the college and not via CAO. For NUI Maynooth, Pontifical Uni Maynooth, Trinity and DCU you need to apply via CAO and also directly to the Uni.

You may have to do a personal statement which is like a mini essay on why you would be an ideal candidate for whatever course(s) you are applying for.

Applications are definitely not on a first come basis :). If you are under 23 you are assessed on Leaving Cert points, if over 23 a number of factors may be considered; your educational background, your work history, relevant hobbies, personal achievements. You may also be asked to attend for an interview or assessment test as part of the mature application route.

For mature applicants to (Grad)Medicine and Arts in NUIG, UCC and UCD you need to register to sit additional test. The Hpat for Medicine;http://www.hpat-ireland.acer.edu.au/
and the MSAP for Arts applicants; http://msap.acer.edu.au/.

Now is the time to get cracking, hope this helps. :)
