Hi Lads would like some help connecting my home cinema system to my laptop.

I have a Philips HTS3020/05 5.1 200 Watt DVD Home Cinema System, that is sitting around gathering dust and would like to connect to my laptop to watch films on xbmc, downloaded films etc.It has decent sound and a remote

Logitech one I use now for laptop are a 2.1 setup and sound is fine, but no remote is driving me mad:D

Anyway the home cinema system has an Aux connection and my Acer Aspire Laptop has a line in connection for headphones

Connectivity
Rear Connections: Composite video (CVBS) output, FM Antenna, AUX in, Easy-Fit speaker connectors, Scart

so you just want the sound from your laptop to come out of your 5.1 sound system?

you'll only get stereo sound from the headphone jack, but unless you want to buy an external 5.1 output device for your laptop (and i have no idea if these work well at all or not), it's probably the best you can do.

i used a creative external sound card when i had my laptop hooked up to the 5.1 . Much better than using the headphone socket on the laptop which was only two channel and subject to noise. http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XFi-Surround-5.1/M/B0044DEDCA.htm
