I have some old light bulbs I'd prefer not to throw into my regular waste bin.Where can I take these bulbs for safe disposal? Thanks in advance for your replies.

The Civic Amenity site on the Kinsale Road (South Link) or the facility out in Raffeen (near Monkstown).

    Great, thanks a lot!

I see there's a €2 charge for disposal though, hopefully not per item!

The Kane Building in UCC has a green CFL drop off box in the foyer, I presume they dispose of the bulbs safely!

CFLs are WEEE items, therefore free AFAIK

Gotta love the Green Party. They introduce this policy of having CFL's for sale - which have hazardous Mercury inside. Despite the fact that normal Incandescent bulbs have been brought up to modern manufacturing specs, oh no ... Beardie on the Bike wanted his CFLs.

Agree about the hazardous mercury, but I think their danger is exaggerated. How about LED? Are they dangerous too?
Have incadescent bulbs been brought up to modern specs? Never heard anything about that - yet!

They have been - but because of the shift to CFLs, it's prohibitive to produce them at the correct price point. However, if CFLs were phased out, the older Incandescents with the newer tech could be brought down to a decent price point too.

Oh well, pity the incadescent bulb industry didn't get their act together earlier...
