Casual use of the word "Rape"

Today I put up my facebook status as "Barbarians are getting raped by the ref" or something similar in regard to a rugby match.

A number of girls I know from college debating began posting on the status attacking me for using the word rape. Although I conceded I may have caused offense or upset, I did suggest that there was no tangible difference between saying the word rape and saying "High taxes are a cancer on society", "I could murder a pie" or even something like "I am on vodka therapy tonight".

Am I wrong, is rape a massively damaging word more so then any of the other examples. Does it deserve protection as the last truly "bad" word. Or are they just being feminists.

I don't approve of your casual use of the word "feminists."

    Probably should be used cautiously.

But fck that like, I use as a substitute for about 25% of all verbs.
Even of of my teachers used it the other day:pac:

Nah, you can't be saying that. You've just raped the word.

saying something like Ireland got fucked by the bank guarantee is not enough, to get the message across about how bad we got ****ed saying we got raped is justifiable imo. time and place, basically if you cant get the point across accurately enough with getting fcuked, then raped is the next level up

A person who had experienced rape would not use the term so flippantly. That is all.

I was attacked by an American female friend for saying 'I'm such a retard *insert something stupid I've done*' in a status. I think its all about context, people that know you know you don't promote rape, same as any friend of mine should know that part of why I did childcare was so I could work with special needs kids!

People love an excuse to b1tch and moan.

    I'd say a rapist would.

The legal definition of rape has been turned sideways with the last rape amendment act
