Saw him for Leeds against Shels at Tolka in 1991 and was instantly a fan. That Wales game was also my first international.

Speed was a serious footballer, and as a Manchester United fan, I respected him hugely - he was always a tough opponent, and a quality footballer.

Wow that's shocking , was hugely impressed by him in the latter stages of his career at Bolton, put so many ageing premier league stars looking for a final payoff to shame; he had the same drive and determination through to the very end of his playing career and kept himself in the same shape as players ten years his junior.
