    Hi all,

Updating my pc at the moment and would like a few suggestions. Have antec 900 case and XFX 650W PSU along with AKASA X4 Cooler and 8GB DDR2 RAM.

Looking to get a CPU, motherboard and graphics card. Pc will be used mainly for fsx so a decent card is needed.

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

Just posting to say that if your getting a newer cpu/motherboard your probably going to need to buy ddr3 ram for it. Luckily it is quite cheap nowadays.

So most motherboards now only support DDR3? Must try and get rid of my DDR2 so

I'd recommend the cookie cooter type setup at the moment, i5 2500k, a gtx 460(should be fine for what you want to do) and an 8gig ddr3 kit,
Any p67 of z68 board will do, mostly depends on your budget.

I tihnk so, or at least you'd be limiting your options quite a bit.
Your gonna need to add some details for the lads to help you further, budget etc like in the format here:

Cheers for that. Where is the best site to get this stuff? Is there a particular motherboard that you'd recommend? Looks to all come in around 500 Euro

So its looking like a 2500k, gtx 460 and open to recommendations for a motherboard and ram?

Is hardwareversand the best place to get all this?

Is a gtx 460 a wise choice, dont want to beak the bank either...Have a gtx 280 at the moment but feel an update is needed

Much better graphics card with this (as much as a 30% improvement over the 460 at 1080p):

    Item|Price
Total build cost: €499.14 (inc delivery Free!)
    Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz LGA1155 6MB|€196.58
    ASRock Z68 Pro 3 LGA1155 Intel Z68 DDR3 ATX|€114.18
    Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti 822MHz 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express HDMI|€188.38

Thanks for that. Just need to add 8gb memory on top of that. Might be able to stretch though

Is the extra 40 Euro for the 560 worth it in your opinion in comparison to the 460?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Woops. Knew I was missing something...

Hells yes. Google for 560Ti reviews if you're not sure. It's performance is far above the 460.

    €11 extra ok? :P

    Item|Price
Total build cost: €511.99 (inc delivery Free!)
    Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz LGA1155 6MB|€196.58
    Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 LGA1155 Intel Z68 DDR3 ATX USB 3.0|€90.70
    Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) HyperX DDR3 1600MHz DIMM 240-pin CL9 XMP|€36.33
    Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti 822MHz 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express HDMI|€188.38

Edit: Just had a look on HWVS, and it comes to about €525 with delivery. Better off saving the potential hassle of German RMAs and just get it with Dabs for that price, IMO.

Excellent, thats exactly the setup I want. Thanks for your help. Think I will go ahead and order from Dabs
