Probably against the charter to post links to other sites so a sentence from Daft:(No sign of the Ristomarket up for sale yet)

The owners of the restaurant, currently trading as Campo de Fiori Restaurant & Wine Bar are moving on to new projects and this provides an ideal opportunity for interested parties to acquire one
of the best known, busiest and longest trading restaurants in Bray. Since opening in 2004, the restaurant has enjoyed 10 years of excellent trade. The restaurant is very well located on Strand Road (The Seafront) in an accessible, popular and sought after location in Bray. The area is well served by a host of local amenities and services including sops, hotels, Bray SeaWorld etc. and the area is well served by public transport with links to the surrounding areas and Dublin city centre via the DART and Dublin bus.

Thanks for that, you mean this link here: http://www.daft.ie/5207681

I don't think it is against the forum charter to post links which are of interest to the relevant forum users. I may be wrong here as I am not a Wicklow moderator but this is indeed shocking. :( The price of 75,000 also doesn't seem that high for a running business. It is very strange indeed.

It does seem very cheap, especially as there are units in the Village Arcade going for similar prices, although there is an annual rent of €55k on top of that purchase price as well to consider.

Yep, shocking about covers it Preusse, although I had heard chef was thinking about opening a place in town in addition to current offerings...I suppose the 75k is just for the goodwill as there are no other assets for sale - and considering its the chef that is leaving I can see why it is not a higher price...
Looks like I will either have to buy it or cook more at home!! Who's with me?
So the premises is just for rent at 55k per year + rates of circa 6k..i think if we all chip in we could have it brimming :)

I can only hope the regular staff stays on or can get involved and that the other chefs stay. I really hope the quality of their menu stays.

Actually, I'm not surprised. In my opinion, the quality was never the same after it moved from across the road.

If the owner is holding on to the other units, this makes sense to me, as the margins on coffee and light food and takeaway pizza are much better than in the restaurant.

Also, there is a lot more competition from Barracuda / Finnbees with all of the renovations of both there.

As zoobizoo has mentioned, support the local decent ones. But if it creates local jobs without affecting local businesses then there's an upside!

Just realised I never came back with my thoughts on Dockyard No 8..
We (two couples) went down that following Saturday I last posted at 10am. The place was empty which was great for table choice but not great for business - so much so that one of the staff members rang another and told her not to bother coming in yet as there was no one there. Within a half an hour it was jammers!
    I digress...
3 of us ordered the full Irish and one (my wife) ordered the scrambled eggs and bacon. All thought it was tasty and well presented and staff were very friendly. Any extra coffee is full price which is understandable but competitors dont all charge extra. The overall consensus was that Ocean is still the best (damn you mafia family..but it works.)
Dockyard No 8 does offer an alternative and I spoke with one of the staff and they were hoping to do some evening meals and wine soon.

Barracuda - nice breakfast, but €12?? Seriously..

Also, went for dinner there last Sunday with the folks. Will be the last time - I thought they had turned it around, again. We were at a wedding there a couple of months ago and the food turned out well (apparently another new chef) so I was relaxed going back on Sunday, that didn't last long.
They suggest rating them on Tripadvisor on the front of their menu -I just might..

The Duggans have invested a huge amount in their businesses and as a result improving the town and providing a lot of employment. I think its a bit unfair to call them a mafia family!!!

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Relax Joey...

It was tongue in cheek. I have plenty of time for the duggans. You may note I have never said a bad word about them

They bring a lot of employment and anything they have done has worked so there it is on record..

If you like I will edit the comment but please read the post again..

The newsagents beside Marlowe's is closed and the coffee shops at both corners of the Albert Walk seem to be closed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭Cliffage

Has that sugarloaf café at the sth end of Albert walk definitely closed? There was a sign there saying closed for August, but no action there in a few months.
pity because they did very good coffee and sandwiches and stocked some quality(if pricey) stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 585 ✭✭✭NobodyImportant

I would guess its closed for good yea. Nothing since August.

See Bookstation has closed down? Any idea whats going in or is there anything?

Heard Dealz was to go in where City2 was, but thats gone quiet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,935 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Any more info on Dealz beyond whats already mentioned?

Surprised by Bookstation tbh I always thought they seemed busy, at weekends anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,729 ✭✭✭zoobizoo

Hope it is a bookshop as well as printing. They have a print/stationery supplies shop in Dun Laoghaire which does not sell books.

It is a bit of a scam the reads thing, they advertise they are cheaper than Easons and belong to Easons

No scam at all. They are cheaper than the Eason's branded stores.
If you doubt this go check it out.

Indeed they are but my point is why should that be when they are all Easons, they own their own competition

Yes, there's 25m pool in the Shoreline Leisure on the Southern Cross ...

    http://shorelineleisure.ie/bray/bray-swimming-pool/

There's also a smaller 14m pool in the Leisure Centre in the Royal Hotel in the centre of Bray ...

It seems a EuroGiant is 'opening soon' at the former xtravision store (and it looks like taking in adjoining premises aswell)....according to the banner-sign attached to temporary site fencing securing the units where an internal refit is currently underway. There may also be a new tenant taking one of the adjoining units (formerly clothes shop I think) where internal refit is ongoing aswell (today). Perhaps Dealz may be less likely to be coming to (or considering) Bray if Eurogiant are first in with such a large premises.

Aww I'd much rather dealz :( Although if one of them gives me a job I won't care which...

Same, EuroGiant sell the same crap as the other 2, Dealz is actually useful.

Yeah I was looking forward to dealz - Eurogiant is crap in comparison.

Noticed building beside the casino at end of albert walk is getting a facelift. Is this a part of the casino itself or is a new business going in?

Rumour going around that Penneys has bought 4 or 5 shop units beside Vincent De Paul at the top of the town
