Thats a shocker, always people going in and out from what I saw, nothing but cafes and pound shops down there soon.

not really a shocker TBH any time I've been in there apart from xmas the staff have nothing to be doing.
The missus worked in Carrickmines for quite a few years and all the staff in Bray said they were bored out of their trees.

The Carrickmines store took a huge proportion of the Bray trade when it opened up.

    Another blow for Bray that.

The council have to do something. Another empty business unit around the Main Street and it's a large unit s is going to be hard to fill.

Obviously the likes of Carrickmines and Dundrum are taking a lot from Bray.

I've heard that it is indeed Dealz that are taking it. Apparently some of the staff are to transfer over to Dealz.

Oh thank goodness, Bray badly needs a €2 shop. Hopefully they'll leave room for a café.

Find that hard to believe, sure how could that happen so quickly?

Can't imagine Smyth's were negotiating with Dealz.

AFAIK smyths own the premises so they may well be making as much from the rental of the property to Dealz as they would from the toy store when you factor everything in.

I am only stating what I had heard.

BTW CEX has opened on the main street popped my head in to have a look and they have some pc components which I was suprised about along with the usual games etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,930 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Wow CEX is a rip-off, retail price for new minus €5-10 seems to be their policy on secondhand crap!

Definitely Dealz into Smyths. Wooo another pound shop. Great (!)
I see Holland and Barrett are recruiting for Bray. It's hardly for the City 2 premises, is it? That's huge

Got the Wicklow Voice in the door the other day and it was saying yeah the old City2 (wasn't it pizzaland or something previously?) building for H&B. It was also saying apparently as many as 8 businesses had been looking at that site.

Woolworths was first, Almost sure they had both units that were more recently Dubray & City 2.

Pizzaland was in unit before Dubray Books. Can't remember if anything was in the other unit before City 2.

Below is a picture from Bray Did you Know with old staff as well.

Pizzaland was where city 2 was not Dubray

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Bray has no pet shops anymore, besides Maxi Zoo on the Southern Cross! Do you think there is room for a pet shop in the town? Or the custom to keep it going?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭zoobizoo

Woolworths was on the corner.... as was Pizzaland.

The space was taken over by Pizzaland.

It was then split in to two units.

The building now houses Dubray and City2

I doubt it, Maxi Zoo is big enough to cover all of Bray/ Greystones.
The one on the Florence Road never really seemed all that busy.

The one up behind McDonalds always seemed to be doing ok, well about 10 years ago anyway. I was surprised to see that gone when I moved back to Bray. But I guess it wouldn't have shut down if it had been doing well!

Yes, correct. Woolworths was definitely on the corner because the building didn't come out as far, and there was a red and white tiled column on the corner - i.e the shop window was set back a bit and there was an overhang with Woolworths sign and the column holding it up.
The stock room in City 2 still had the chairs upstairs from Pizzaland, but I wasn't sure if this was something even Woolworths had not bothered removing (had they been post Pizzaland, which clearly they weren't).

Dubray, formerly The Bray Bookshop was on the Quinsboro road down where the Asian Food store next to Molloys is or thereabouts, it was a tiny crammed little shop and you could spend hours browsing.

Any ideas what might happen with Barracuda now that the CoCo have managed to flog the title for a mere 10k?
It's hardly turning a profit at the moment??

Interesting. Can't believe it was sold for €10,000.
I'm getting married there next month so I really hope it stays around for a while!

I don't think there are any plans for the Barracuda.

Its a pity the site wont be developed anytime soon, but not sure an Aldi was the best thing for the space. Just across from Supervalu and within spitting distance of Lidl. Traffic would also be made worse in that vicinity.

I see Albert Walk is continuing a very slight uphill trend, Players Casino is finishing their facelift and more railway sleepers have arrived to create raised flowerbeds.
