    Blueprint "adventures in counter culture".

    The dreamer/the believer - Common.

Should be out by the end of the month.

  • Registered Users Posts: 341 ✭✭Oleg Luzhny

My favourite albums of 2011 would be:

    Evidence - Cats & Dogs
    Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
    Reks - R.E.K.S.
Saigon - The Greatest Story Never Told

If I had to pick a favourite, I would pick The Greatest Story Never Told.

Technically a few of these aren't albums but I still think they're class.

My #1 is definitely Elzhi's "Elmatic". Couldn't stop listening to it when it came out.

My #2 is Covert Coup by Curren$y. Some class beats on it and the song with Freddie Gibbs is probably my favourite of the year.

Then finishing off my selection are a few other, pretty good ones:

    Frank Ocean - "Nostalgia"
    Blu - "Nu York"

was just about to make a similar thread lol:),

favorite single : Ronald Reagan Era > kendrick lamar

Favorite Album : Section 80 > kendrick lamar

Favorite Song : Ricky > Game ...... Celebrate > Common (just released, love it)

    Favorite Mixtape : return of 4eva > Big K.R.I.T

    From what I've heard;

    Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
Big Krit - Return of 4Eva
    Danny Brown - XXX
    ASAP Rocky - LiveLoveASAP
    Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
    Random Axe - Self Titled
Kanye & Jay - Watch The Throne

I'm also really liking Juicy J's new mixtape "Blue Dream & Lean", the best Three 6 related full length project since When The Smoke Clears, imo

Tbh i thinks its shite, maybe its just me? I even thought C3 was shit and thats critically acclaimed to be his best, maybe i just dont like wayne.

I honestly felt this was crap, bar one or two songs. Hov is much better than what he produced on this record.

Great choice. My favourite song on the mixtape was Hometown Hero. That was until Chamillionaire jacked the beat on his own mixtape a while later and then it became even better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

    • LiveLoveA$AP
    • Section.80
    • Nostalgia, Ultra
    • Watch The Throne
    • Take Care

EDIT: Guess Frank Ocean isn't really a rapper, but worth an honourable mention :p

Tbh I think its disrespectful to start a thread like this without waiting for a week after the roots undun dropped. They're always good or at least a top 3 spot.

My pre-order just downloaded. 5 songs in and impressed. Phone even get his gangsta on - more people need to drop concept albums like this!

    Mines pretty similar:

    Sims "Bad Time Zoo"
    Blu "Nu York"
    Blueprint "Adventures in Counter Culture"
Hail Mary Mallon "Are You Gonna Eat That"
    Childish Gambino "Camp"
    Random Axe
    Grieves & Budo "Together/Apart"
    Atmosphere "The Family Sign"
Rockwell Powers and Ill Pills 'Kids in the Back II'
    Fresh Daily "The Quiet Life"
    Soul Khan "Soul Khan"
Mr. Mutha****in' eXquire "Lost In Translation"
    Astronautalis "This Is Our Science"

Doomtree, " No Kings" - Havent listened to this enough yet but i'd say its up there

Floggggggg also mentions the Roots, what i've heard is superb so far but need to give it a full listen.

If i was forced to pick my favorite from the above, I would probably have to say Hail Mary Mallon, jut edging out Grieves and Astronautalis.
The Hail Mary Mallon album has everything for me, great rhymes, wordplay, interchange, cuts, beats and variety. The 2 MC's compiment each other so darn good and his perfectly complimentented by DJ Big Wiz.
There is also another big reason, a bit corny perhaps, but in April this year my daughter was born. A few weeks later the album came out and they happen to mention my daugters name on it a few times.....obviously not a direct reference to her.....but made the album entirely more pleasurable to listen to. (Her name is not Mary :D ) If anyone has kids, they will know the pressure that goes with naming them and it's nice to hear or see a sign that justifies your choice as they will be stuck for life with that name.

I was disappointed not to see a new Cecil Otter album this year :(

Most releases from MelloMusic have stood out for me
Has Lo - In Case I Dont Make it
    DTMD - Makin Dollas
    Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
Fresh Daily - The Quiet Life
    Moka Only - Airport 5
    Roots album is sounding good..

Really? So no love for Death Grips in here?

I reckon Ex Military is probably the album of the year in all genres.

Also really enjoyed Milo - I wish my brother Rob was here.

The Death Grips album is great, insane but great. I didnt include it on my top albums because it's not something i'm able to listen to on the spur of thr moment. It's something that you really need to prepare yourself for

I can't get enough of it really. Love blasting it through headphones on the bus to my studio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭ghostface ste

    Cats and Dogs - Evidence
    Camp - Childish Gambino
    Together/Apart - Grieves & Budo
Hell: The Sequel - Bad Meets Evil
    Higher Learning 2 - Fashawn

The new atmpsphere was pretty good too. Saw a few mentions for Blueprints Counter Culture, didnt do it for me. Radio Inactive was a superb song but some of the stuff on the album I thought was really poor. Pretty poor year I thought overall :o capped by the awfulness that was Watch The Throne

and a new album to me this year but pretty old
    MHz - Table Scraps

    All 6s & 7s - Tech N9ne
    Radioactive - Yelawolf

No mention of The Roots yet?

Undun is the album of the year for me, their best album since Things Fall Apart

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭EddyC15

    Tyler the Creator - Goblin
    I love it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭horsebox09

Undun is fantastic, my only complaint would be some of the hooks really detract from the songs, but other than that it's quality

I heard the new Common album, which I thought for sure would be one of my favourite albums this year, and although No I.D is in top form, it's one of Common's worst mic performances, in my opinion :(

My list isn't really anything striking but hey:
    Tyler the Creator- Goblin.
Royce Da 5'9- Success Is Certain. I don't think this album got as much attention as it deserved tbh.
Mac Miller- Blue Slide Park. Didn't expect it to go #1 but fair play, Mac is only 19 and really decent, having released his mixtape Thank you, Thank you, Thank you this year too.
Drake- Take Care. Took me a few listens but I love it, can't wait for his concert.
Yelawolf- Radioactive. Probably my overall favorite this year, so many different sounds and great features.
The Roots- Undun. Mac Miller actually directed me to this album and I don't regret anything!
Crooked I- In none we trust. Haven't really listened to most of it but it has potential.
Bad Meets Evil- Hell The Sequel. Brilliant songs on this I still love it as much as I did when it came out.
Tech N9ne- All 6's and 7's & Welcome To Strangeland. There are both great but I think I prefer 6's and 7's

Forgot Professor Green At Your Inconvenience. Not much seem to like him around here but personally I love him, flow lyrics and all.

    2 late additions for me:

    Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
    The Roots - undun

Picked both of them up yesterday and they are both excellent. I love the production on Shabazz Palaces and Ish/Butterfly is brilliant as usual on everything he touches.

The two ep's he released over the last year or so are worth getting too. Production is quality a bit like some of jneiro jarel's stuff.

Love it, the new sound is excellent. I've been nerding it up a bit and when listening trying to pick out the bits that each producer contributed to the track. It's kinda taking my focus off the lyrics, so I need to pay more attention there.
But there are some amazing songs on the album.

The Roots album is excellent and up there with the best of the year, not sure what the aim or the point of the last 3 musical tracks were tho?? Still haven't got my hands on the No Kings album

Aye it takes a while to really get into the lyrics!

The last 2 verses on the closer Fresh New Trash from Dessa and Mike are probably the best so far for me.
First 4 tracks are the best for me so far.

    Its here to listen to...

I am liking Lupe Lasers so far, I know most people did not like it and Lupe ended up not liking it really but its a good album as much as I have heard so far.

The beats and the choruses are shambolic though, unless you are a j cole or a drake fan of course.

I'm sorry but these three shouldn't be anywhere near this thread. When you have people like Elzhi, Curren$y, Blu, The Roots and Childish Gambino putting out the albums that they have then you can't say that any of them guys are of the same quality.

If I was going to choose a Gucci tape I'd say Writings On The Wall 2 is much better than Ferrari Boyz.

I'm just going to say Danny Brown - XXX is album of the year. I'm too hungover to go listing 20 of them.

but ferrari boys is waka flocka and gucci and its an album not a mixtape even tho they are considered the same thing:rolleyes::cool:

wrting on the wall 2 is good tho

    Kendrick Lamar "Section 80"

The Martyr By immortal Technique (he's an absolute legend)
    Cats and Dogs by Evidence
Monumental by Pete rock and Smif n Wessun
Violence begets Violence by JMT ( at first I thought this would flop considering stoupe wasn't involved , but its real good )

yeah Violence begets Violence was relseased in October 2011

was listening to an interview recently on conspriacyworldwide radio with JMT , and basically stuope simply was not interested in working with them ,
jus Allah was commmenting that if you ask stoupe to come with a beat , it could take him 6 months to respond ,

I think the guy on the album (c-lance I think ) was producing a tonne of beats on a weekly basis for them , hence the reason he was used ,
    albums pretty good ,

looking forward to the new AOTP album due out this year

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

I think that Stoupe's concentrating more on his solo stuff rather than JMT.

His album from last year or the the year before is supposed to be ace. I still have to listen to it.
