I know if an ROI company orders goods/parts for their business outside of Ireland, they do not have to pay VAT. However if they have the goods delivered to address in UK they do. So here's the thing!
A friend's business has to order alot of specialist parts from the UK, no one here doing them. So they order, pay 0% Vat at purchase point and goods are delivered but carriage costs are mad!
They would be able to use a NI address as a delivery address but then they can't have 0% Vat from get go and would have to pay the 20% VAT in uk.
However the carriage cost saving is still pretty good.
I assume it is somehow possible to claim back VAT paid in another EU country? Or is that possible? I cant seem to find out let alone how! Thanks:)

Invoice address and delivery address are not the same thing. He orders from his business, they don't charge VAT as he has an Irish VAT number, and he gets them delivered to NI. There shouldn't be an issue there should there?

If he is getting them delivered to the UK he will be paying the VAT as UK companies charge vat between themselves. The problem he has is that he cannot claim it back as he is not registered in the UK so getting it delivered there is pointless.

However im wondering can you get it delivered to NI and then invoiced to head office?

    I suppose that's your question too :D

How about he orders the goods from the supplier without a delivery and pays 0% VAT. Then he can call DHL or whoever else (I personally use http://www.parcel2go.com/service/DHL-Europlus.aspx) and they do the door-to-door transport from his supplier to NI.
He still can't claim the vat for delivery charges I think, but it should save him some money anyway.

This is not correct. The supplier can only charge 0% VAT if the goods are being shipped out of the UK.

You can claim VAT incurred in other EU countries through Irish Revenue. See here for details. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/refunds/unregistered-persons-vat-reclaims-faqs.html

    Hi

If you are registered for ROS you can apply to have the VAt refunded via EVR. Details are here

    Kind Regards

Thanks, it seemed too straightforward. I knew I must have been missing something!
