Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Idle question...

Is horn branding sheep practiced/allowed here? As in branding the horn, I guess with a hot iron of some type (?) with initials etc.

I think it has nearly completely died out.

It used to be fascinating to look at a blacksmiths door to see the huge number and variety of horn brand trials (as he invariably tested the finished item on the nearest piece of flat wood).

I often wondered who gave out the codes as I could never see any great pattern (eg I saw PF54 on a ewe). I haven't bought a horney ewe with a horn brand for over 20 years.

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed as it was burned into a dead part of the horn.
