Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    1. Get hit by reversing car
    2. Ask boards.ie whether or not to inform the guards
    3. ???
    4. Profit!

i said he reversed out, when he went forward or took off i was at his front light and ended up at the windscreen such was the impact. in those few seconds he saw me then stopped.

Now you were hanging on looking in the windscreen at him and he still did not see you :pac::pac:
Is this a scene for a new movie?

Was the surgery due to getting hit by a car ?

If you've been run over and are injured, you should report him to the guards.
    It's not rocket science..

You said you both shook on it, so obviously you're not as 'okay' with it as you said at the time. If you're going to do anything about it, you'd want to do it asap. If you've any cuts or bruising as a result of being hit, they will need to be documented. You might want to close the laptop and make tracks to the garda station now, as they will want to know why you didn't report it as soon as it happened.

how could he see me, he was in a hurry. right lets call a spade a spade here. he reversed out of his drive way without due care and attention. the reason he didn't see me was because he'd no lights on. i was at the front near side of his car wearing a dark cream jacket. i was half way across the road before he even started to reverse out of his drive way. i'm not one for getting the guards unless it's something serious. your talking the guts of 30-40 feet from his drive way to where the impact was. it only took literally seconds for this to happen.

If you want to go to the guards you should do it now before you post further in this thread. If the person that hit you sees this thread he can use the fact that the first thing you did was post on an internet forum rather than seeking medical attention as proof that you weren't badly hurt.

It was not a hit n run, the driver did leave the scene but spoke to the op/ip.

My post count is because I am sad, lonely and anti social with no life outside of boards, according to some, not me of course:pac:

    Is the car ok?

Seriously OP, you're a big boy - you decide whether to call the police or not. Why are you asking strangers on the internet for advice?
    Have you been drinking/taking drugs?
    Were you injured?

In such a hurry that he travelled faster the speed of light? That's the only scenario I can think of that makes sense of the above statement.
You should call an ambulance, maybe you suffered a brain injury?

You were run over, yet your first port of call is not the guards or ambulance, it's an internet forum full of people you don't know that will most likely make fun of you......................

And they posted in AH to make sure they get useful replies!

OP you have to report this to the Gardaí, you where involved in an RTI and they have to be reported.

you say he had no lights, did you have torch and high vis vest while walking in the dark

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭hawkelady

maybe this is what happened .. out for an stroll on a winter' evening wearing a dark cream jacket with his darling wife... while crossing an unlit road he gets an auld tip of a car, gets a bit of a shock and exchanges words with the driver.. walks home, not hobbles or crawls but walks. wife nags about getting new curtains in time for xmas and maybe painting the hall, stairs and landing.. op has an idea of maybe reporting the incident, tells people that he just had an operation which is now quiet sore.logs onto a chat forum to gauge the reaction to possibly reporting the incident and with a glint in his eye, he is hoping to get some financial reward to pay for aformentioned curtains and paint..
correct me if im way off btw...

Trying to grasp the thinking behind getting a smack of a car and the first thing you do is post on an internet forum. Can't do it.

Reminds me a bit of this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭PandyAndy

Dirtynosebeps, I think the decent thing to do here is find out who knocked you down and pay for any damages you may have caused to the car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭SC024

Why? The OP is ok if s/he is on here talking about it?

    What will this achieve ?

report to the guards and push for a proscectition, you might have to go to court...
at the end of it all it was careless/ dangerous driving/....shows the amount of people who dont know the rules of the road.:p

    LOL Modern times

Hi I have just been the victim of a hit and run, 15 minutes ago, help me after Hours, what shall I do, should I ring the guards or an ambulance as my eyeball is hanging out as I type this.

After hours what shall I do.

Op unless you wearing a full high vis vest, carrying a bright torch with good batteries & a bulb that works while you got "knocked down" it is entirely your fault, nobedy is else is even in the least bit wrong so all you need to do is man up and get on with shagging your wife before someone on here realises your not paying attention and decide to throw one into her anyway. ;)

Forget this crap of he only had reverse lights on, If he had reverse lights on that is all he needs to reverse. Hence your reverse light does not come on when you move forward thats what headlights are for.

WTF asking on here like? whats that about?

I got hit by a car head on pulling out of a hotel, threw me up on the bonnet. Got bruised knees, guy drives off. Made a statement guards had chat with guy, guy calls round says sorry, all sorted. No charges against the guy, he was really sorry, end off.

My neighbour got hit by a car when he was on his bike, battered up quite nasty, cuts n bruises and never contacted the guards.

Meh! If you knew the registration number of the car or could even give a half-decent description of it, you'd have reported the incident to the Garda long ago. Just be glad you're still alive and able to post BS on the Internet.:):)

great thread. reminds me of that celeb watcher gimp in america, Perez or something?, and he tweeted for someone to call the cops because he was assualted.

about the thread, a couple of points highlighted above.

    1. he REVERSED and you say he couldnt see you because he had no lights on? what kind of car has magic lights on the rear that help you see?
    2. you were wearing dark clothes and were on the middle of the road. eh?
    3. you knew he was reversing out his drive, so you were aware of what his intentions were. yet you still continued walking into the path of the where the car would go.
    4. it obviously wasnt serious. get over it. it sounds you were as much to fault and there were no injuries. he stopped and apologised and made sure you were ok.

    Well said
Jay walking isnt a crime here, but sauntering about in the middle of the road in darkness isnt advisable either. Sh1t happens, he might have been stroppy but the driver was probably in shock too. You finished with shaking hands so its hardly hit and run anymore. Do a good deed and dont ruin his year...unless of course its complicated if you think you have actually sustained extra injury beyond the insult.

i was just asking whats the best thing to do. but i really love the mentality of alot of posters in here.. i've calmed down alot, yes i was in shock at the whole incident, rang the guards and they said to drop up when i get a chance in other words i still haven't reported it yet. he never asked was i alright. he was blaming me until i said i'd get the guards to sort this out then his attitude changed to being sorry.
now let me get this right. this guy is still in his drive way not moving, his reverse light is on so therefore the intention is there but he's still not moved yet. i'm crossing the road where it's safe to do so. i'm sure we all remember the green cross code man. remember to look left and right etc. he tears out without checking or looking ,stops right beside me, me being at the front nearside of his car. for those of you that dont know where this is. i'm right beside his left front light which is not on. jasus i wonder what lights are for . he puts the boot down because he doesn't see me, jasus i wonder what lights are for :rolleyes: and hits me. judging from the replies here half of you shouldn't be let near a car let alone drive one. you haven't got a clue about the rules of the road.
    darlett wrote: »

yeah he must've been in real shock because he tore off as soon as we shook hands as if nothing happened. what if that was a kid, theres a school right where it happened and the road he sped of down runs parallel to the school. T.B.H. reading the posts i'm more shocked at some of the stupid comments made here than what actually happened.

Now you say he had no lights on. That sounds like an electrical fault. He should bring the car to the garage and get it looked at or he will fail his next NCT.

It wasn't a Renault by any chance?
