    Hi all,

have a problem with Magnet broadband where their supplied ZyXEL P-660HN-T1A can take many restarts (warm or cold) before connecting to the internet. Here are a few logs that I've just taken after trying to connect for the last 35 minutes (these logs only capture the last few attempts):

    Finally Connected!

Has anyone seen any of these sort of problems? it just started happening out of the blue last Tuesday or so and I've tried 2 factory resets to try and get it right but no joy. Sometimes the router connects straight away but what is happening above is happening way too much for my liking.

There's a few niggly things with the Magnet service:
    1. can't connect to Internet (as above)
    2. apple devices can only connect to wifi for a few minutes at a time before resetting (even though I have router configured to use g wifi only)
    3. since the problems above started happening, I can no longer access rte rss news feeds or any facebook app. Chrome seems to be timing out on connect.facebook.com but i can ping that just fine

It could be lots of things.

    1) Network:
Check with Magnet for any network faults in your area.

    2) Line:
Have you connected anything else to the phone line ? New Sky box, phone, etc?
Check the line by picking up a phone, dialling any key on your phone and listening for crackles too.
There has been very high wind in recent days and it's possible your line's been damaged somewhere along the route if it's running overhead anywhere. In urban areas, lines often pass close to / through trees!
If this is the case, you need to report that you are intermittently having problems hearing people on the line. Magnet need to log a fault with eircom and get them to carry out repairs. Eircom don't seem to take much notice of DSL faults, but if you cannot hear someone on the line or there are intermittent crackles, they have to take prompt action !

    2) Modem:
Get Magnet to replace the modem.
    It could simply be faulty.
If you know your DSL password/username and settings, you could see if you could borrow someone's modem and test the line. It could help you troubleshoot it.

Call Failed means that the modem has failed to sync to the DSLAM in the exchange. It's most likely an error with the physical line or the modem's faulty. It'd be unusual to have a problem at the DSLAM without the ISP realising, although it's possible.

A new modem might sort it!
