Scholes, Gerrard, Carragher, Giggs spring to mind straight away. Although its impossible to say for sure for any player.

Really? The same one who wqas begged by his Dad not to go to Chelsea?

Hand on heart, if I was a player, I would strive to earn enough money so that me and my family could retire comfortably but once I had that sorted, I would honestly make a decision based on football and my heart.

The difference between 150k a week and 300k is semantic. The former means you can still be set for life.

It's not really. There is a huge differene between the two, one means you can provide for your family while the other could allow you to provide for your grandkids, or great grandkids or cousins etc.

Providing an easy life for 2-3 generations down the line wouldn't be a burning priority for me.

Easy to say that on an internet forum. In real life it would be a lot harder to turn it down.

I don't see why a player needs to show allegence to a particular club. If a player wants to move for his own personal gain (money, glory or prestige I.e ronaldo) or simply because they want to continue their career at a top level but there is no opportunities at the club they are at ( phil Neville).

If a player is given the opportunity to play at a bigger club with the promise of better wages and a better chance to win trophies, they have every right to go for it as the club will not remain loyal to them if they become crap overnight.

That said, I hope bale, modric and van der vaart do not read this thread.

Actually bale is the perfect example. He was about to be sold to a championship side and he became good overnight, now all of a sudden, as the fans sing, he was born to play for spurs. A fickle thing is football

You may as well say the game about any football opinion expressed by a non professional footballer on here.

One thing that I admitted didn't think of though was that the club could be milling a fortune from you so maybe you would want to claw it back.

Have to say I think the only time a player really shows real loyalty these days in football is if the club who nurtured there talent is a massive club were they will earn big money and be in with a chance to win things. i.e the like of Giggs, Xavi, Messi etc the days of Le Tissier are long gone im afraid, can anyone really think of any player out there with his capabilities who willing to stay at a smaller club without the money and prestige?

Personally as an Arsenal fan im hoping thinking That Frimpong and Wilshire will be at Arsenal and show loyalty for a long time seeing as theyve come up through the Arsenal ranks and both seem to have a real love for the club first and be players second but only time will tell.
