    Hello All,

Have this device lying around and want to do something with it!

Its a garmin etrex legend (pretty old one with the serial rs interface) think its has 8mb memory.

Whats the chances of getting topography maps on to it for ireland.

    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=167&pID=173 this chap!

    many thanks

Not sure about topograpy maps, that eTrex could take the Metroguide Road maps ok. You selected tiles from the Metroguide maps using Trips and Waypoint Manager on your PC until you had 8MB selected, then you downloaded the map tiles to the eTrex but it didn't have any routing functionality so you couldn't use it for 'go to' naviation as you can with car unts.

The last Garmin map product to suport the eTrex Legend seems to be City Navigator Europe which is now discontinued. You'd need the Garmin serial cable and a USB-Serial converter to get your PC talking to the device.

thanks for that, I would be looking more at the topo for trekking. Use the an android device at the mo, but not totally reliable and not good against the heavens!

Had a look at the scottish mountaineering maps and might do the trick, not memory intensive too!

I've ordered a usb to serial adapter, have the garmin cable that came with it.

    Regards

    Damo
