There's an abundance of buses to town that you can get from Donnycarney Church (right beside Clanmaurice). I don't know the numbers offhand since they changed route names but you'd barely be waiting more than 10 minutes on a bus from there at any time.

There's a Super Valu in Killester village which is close by. As has been said, Artaine Castle SC is also close enough, with a 24 hour Tesco and a Penneys. There's a McDonalds at the shopping centre too, if you're so inclined. The Goblet is a lovely pub for a few quiet pints, just up the Malahide Road in the Artane direction (about a 10 minute walk) and the Cosy chipper across the road from it is pretty tasty too.

St Anne's park isn't too far away either for lovely walks. There's a food market there on Saturdays too which is very nom.

The Casino in Marino is less than a 10 minute walk away too, if you're in the mood for a bit of culture.

    It's a great area, basically!

Been in Killester a lot and from talking to people who live there it seems like the only thing stopping someone from moving there is the price!

Close enough to town, so that drunken taxi isn't going to cost the earth, good transport, nice mature and leafy, quiet, st annes park and the sea.

    See its great :pac:

Have you had a good walk around there? I'd do that before moving in.

Killester near the Howth Road near is grand. As you move towards Donnycarney and the "clans" you'll be in an old council estate, which would have had a reputation as being rougher than Clontarf. Shouldn't be much of an issue these days.

Facilities are good. There's a big Supervalu on the Howth Road, and lots of smaller shops around. If you have a car you can shop cheaper in Tesco further up the Malahide Road in Clarehall. Plenty of buses, and the DART is nearby. Not too far from St Annes Park.

yeah i have taken a walk around it and its grand.... a woman of about 70 said hello and i wasnt looking to friendly at time lol so if she was floating around and happy out safety is not an issue! services seem super duper too

Take note of the recent flooding

There is a river through that area, as you walk up the Malahide Road you can see a nineteenth century plaque for the bridge. The river is underground now of course but that area does get flooded

Degsy or some local expert could probably name the river, I've forgotton the name.

Further up Killester would not have this issue

Donnacarney rough? Maybe twenty years ago, very settled and quiet now

Fantastic transport, you have buses on the Malahide and Howth roads and the Dart and taxis to town are affordable.
Cycle lanes most of the way if want to do that also

    The Holly Brook.

You can actually see the river itself if you go into Harry Byrne's back bar and look down the well.

ramble inn is gas with its in your face friendliness. you cannot walk into the place without the locals quizzing you, though in a nice way.

beachcomber can be nice. there is a nice chinese beside it.

harry Byrnes down the road has a nice ambiance

Harry's and the beachcomber are both good as is the new Gilbert and Wrights beside Harry's. I wouldn't call either of the chinese takeaways in killester nice though. If you drive, its worth the five minute trip to get a Takeaway from Hing Keng, unfortunately they don't deliver.

I live in the Clans its a great spot for everything 8 mins from Dart and a good choice of buses into town in 15 mins. Shop/pharmacy/chinese/pubs short walk away and beside Artane and Killester for supermarkets. I have been living here 6 years and it's grand area.

    To the original poster ...
Just wondering how you are finding the place a few years on? I know the area reasonably well so am familiar with the amenities and transport links etc but more just looking to get an insight from someone who lives there that you maybe wouldn't know if you didnt live there.... such as crime / community spirit / schools / etc.
Would appreciate if you could spare a few minutes to put down some thoughts on this.
    Thanks
    Conor
