    A reporter for a newspaper was assigned to news story, and submitted the article to the editor with the following headline:

    "Mentally ill man escapes local facility and sexually assaults five women"

    The editor immediately took him to task.

    "Look, you've got a 200 word article with an 11 word headline.

    The headline should be short, it should fit the column width if possible, and it should include only action words, which tease the article but don't provide detail.

    Take it back and rework it."

    The rookie returned shortly with the following headline:






    "NUT BOLTS, SCREWS"
