tring to drive the chairlift up the stairs. chair starts and goes up about 3 steps and stops. it needs to be turned off and back on again and then will only move about 3 inches. the chair will come down no problem. if you put any weight on the chair it will not drive up at all. need to find out if there are brushes on the motor or instructions on how to strip it down would be a help

Thanks for that, the battery seems to be ok. the stairlift will go all the way up with no weight on it and will come down with full weight on it, but will only move about 6inches going up with weight. Then it stops and you have to switch it off and back on again to get it to move again, any help appreciated

the power draw on the batteries descending will be lower than ascending

Likely battery problem alright, its showing all the signs of it. Either the battery is not holding a charge, or the charger is not working or has a problem with its power supply.

When the chair stops with weight on it, battery is probably just able to move it up a little, then dies. Switching off lets the battery recover marginaly so the chair will move a little again when started again. Descending would have little load on the battery compared to ascending.
