Ok guys, I'm going to be blunt here - don't hate.

What has this game got to offer other than the "storyline"? First and foremost, I know this a PvP-based game but why get this instead of Guild Wars 2? I played WoW at a "world first" level so when it comes to MMO's I'm pretty well-versed, albeit PvE. What does this game offer to other players? For a start, I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan I'm just looking into something new (but I'll probably just stick it out for GW2 and D3 in the meantime). I've been reading a lot of reviews about how great the storyline is and how immersive it is.... great.... but at the end of the day nobody plays an MMO for its story. No matter how much you want to deny the fact - a true MMO begins once your have maxed characters. Now, what does this game bring to the table that any other hasn't brought?

    Story - check.
    Dialogue - check.
Gimmicky movement/fight/combat mechanics (from what I can see) - check
Different classes (albeit the original Tank, Heal, DPS) - check
    Possibility for development/improvement - check
    New profession ideas - check
    Enjoyment - check

    Difficult dungeons - ??
    Hard Raids - ??
    Innovative boss mechanics - ??
    PvP balance - ??
    New PvP ideas - ??
    Replayability - ??
    Excitement - ??
    Seriousness - ??
    Potential - ??

Come May, 2012 where will this game be?

EDIT: From teamliquid.net (a first time MMO gamer):

Well judging from nearly everyone I have talked to in game most people are playing this MMO for it's story. Your not going to enjoy this so don't waste your money and time, if you play this as a min max excell sheet express game, get in and out in a week then your going to be unimpressed. So save yourself the bother.

Its too early to guess what the end game content will be as the game is only out. By the sounds of it its so far so good but it could easily go the way of WarHammer online if people max out there characters and then find there's nothing to do. There's only so many alts you can level up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

EDIT: From teamliquid.net (a first time MMO gamer):

It almost seems like you are trolling, hard to tell.

If you are as hardcore as you indicate - wait until a couple of guilds are raiding and decide then if it will suit you. It won't take you long to reach end game, so you wont miss out on anything, esp since you aren't bothered with the story elements.

Based on the game so far, the story is immersive and clearly this appeals to a lot of people, perhaps not you ... great... but it's a big selling point. You are pretty dismissive of this - and wrongly so.

The game isn't hard, no MMO's are - the challenge for an MMO is to make you spend a lot of time doing stuff, and making that stuff interesting enough that you continue to pay cash every month.

This game is interesting. Instances aren't as linear as WoW, though much of the mechanics carry over. Raids I have no idea - re-playability is high, I already have a strong urge to try one or two other classes.

Crafting is novel, fun and I haven't seen anything similar before.

As far as PvP is concerned, I've not seen any balance issues - but this will iron out at 50. No class to my mind stands out as overpowered, but it's too early to tell.

Realistically - most of your concerns won't be addressed by the vast majority of the community until some time in February.

So we have to add a game card or creditcard details if we want to play today even tho we get 30 days game time free. That sucks:(

You're probably not the guy who I'm looking for then. I only play MMO's for the end-game and don't give a f*ck about the story. But, then again, that's just me.

There is footage from the first Operation (raid) called the Eternal Vault. A guild killed a few bosses in beta on normal mode. It's going to have three difficulties - normal, heroic and nightmare.

All 4 mans will have a heroic version at lv50. Not sure on nightmare version. Not sure about PVP.

Though others are right, this was sold as a story driven mmo by bioware.

Im not. My spacebar is taking a hammering, im skipping everything. If i see a red icon over the answer, i click it, thats about it. While having said that, i am paying attention to certain things in the game - its hard not to. I got real giddy last night when i got my ship for example!

Im playing it for PVP and i might play a bit of pve. So far its been amazing. Im not polishing a turd here - its not as obvious as WOW for what type of opponent you are coming up against, so I'm finding it hard to adapt to fighting different people. However, i have all my settings on the lowest possible setting. So im not really full of colour and texture right now :pac:

Its a great game so far, and im level 18 atm. No other MMO that i've played as been this interesting at 18. Im not really in a rush to hit the level cap, which is definitly different as i only play these games for level capped pvp :]

Yea so seems that having handed them £40 (or whatever Euro it was) gives you 28 days, but doesnt give you the right to actually play for those 28 days until you promise to give them more money? Well pardon my french but what a bunch of ... naw I can't decide on what word to use and when I do no doubt it'll get me banned.

And I'm obv not the only one in this situation because the EA side subscription server has crashed from over use. Seems Bio-tits didn't make it obvious enough what the plan was.

So much for a day off to do some leveling before the Xmas rush

It's pretty standard procedure for an MMO to require a cc or gtc before you can play. iirc, pretty much every major MMO in recent memory has done just this.

I'm just surprised you're all surprised.

Sitting in a queue waiting to access the subscription screen. Bloody joke that after forking out €150 for a CE BioWare would pull this ****.

The purchase of the initial install of the game usually comes with so many days pre-loaded, as SW:TOR has, my account shows me as having 28 days.

If they wanted us to subscribe AS WELL before allowing us to use those days, fair enough, just tell us! lol

I'm subscribed now and in, it's just the initial confusion which it seems a lot of people are experiencing.

Agreed as a previous post stated you need to add payment details to play from today on wards

I wish they'd just told us when we were inputting our codes that we needed to do this. And now with the grace period ended everyone and their mother is trying to get access.

I did it from the SWTOR site but I think they've had to remove the link cause the payment server ground to a halt.

I'm into the 20's and last night is a prime example of what this game is doing right.

At this stage in the game - leveling takes a while (as it does in any MMO), but last night I breezed through a level without even noticing.

I Logged in and was orbiting Balmorral at level 21. I decided to skip this planet as I had more or less had out leveled it by the time I got to it. First thing I did was two space missions - the escort and the other one... Took around 20 minutes, and when done - I went to Balmorral to start my class quest there.

I spent an hour or so completing my entire class quest on Balmorral after which I joined up with a friend to do a flashpoint. When I was done with this I went upto the Mezzanine on the Imperial fleet and got a PvP quest. I came out top healer with around 220k and when I finished I realised I had not only dinged 22 but had also gained almost another full box.

At no stage was anything boring or "grindy" and I really was impressed. I know it's not always going to be like this, but fair play to Bioware for making things a little more fun.

All in all I spent just over two hours playing! People above asking about healing - at 20 if you spend all your points on healing as a Sorcerer and I think other healing classes as well you get a "talent" based heal which you then can improve with some utility talents. I got a HOT based heal which then allows a faster big heal or a cheaper small heal. Do not underestimate how much this helps with mana conservation.

I also got a "force regen at the cost of health" ability at 20. Think of a Warlocks Life tap from wow - but with greater penalties. At 22 - I can heal flashpoints (even bosses) an awful lot easier than I could at 15 / 16.

I would suggest not skipping planets as you get offered a bonus set of quests that tend to give a very nice orange item reward when completed. They tend to kick in when the class story is done on a planet but the Nar Shadda one starts at level 31 for some reason.

Finally into the website.. and the payment server has crashed. Can't access the payment pages. I spend nearly as much time waiting to play as playing this game..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭V9

Got to input the code I got into the site but now its giving me a general error when I click continue. Bloody hell, its nearly as bad as the elite launch for CoD

I too am surprised at all this. I had payment details set up at the start of the week. This is pretty standard for mmos

I just don't understand how a company like Bioware can have such a hard time as organizing all this

Not everyone is an experienced MMO'er, and if they or someone else dont tell you how else would you know?
