Removing Smear Stains from a New Timber Floor

Just put down a new timber (engineered) floor - the timber is pre-finished (lacquered). Looks lovely.

But...it is smeared - looks like where the excess adhesive has been wiped. I have tried mopping it with tepid water (4 times): it got some of the smearing off, but a lot more to do yet.

I have been warned that to use any kind of cleaner on it will take the shine off the lacquer finish.

Is there any cleaner / additive I can add to the water that will remove the smearing but won't damage the lacquer ?

    Thanks, in advance.

Use one of the specialist wooden-floor cleaners diluted as required in a mop bucket and wipe the floor with a damp mop. Use a soft mop on the handle that takes interchangeable mop-heads.

If the smears are excess adhesive, it needed to be wipe off immediately with a damp rag. It may not come off easily now.

White spirit is the bees knees for removing adhesive residue.
If you are worried that it might affect the finish of the floor - try a little rub on a sample area, in an out of the way place like under the sofa etc.
If it does affect the gloss then an alternative is to use a hair dryer to soften the residue which can then easily be scraped up with stiff plastic.

i had the same smearing residue stuff on my floor but it was a laminate so no glue used. tried everything put couldnt shift it .i asked the man and he said he seen it before and to get rid of it we just rubbed it real hard with the palm of your hand or finger with no water. the heat and friction seems to get rid of it

We got new laminate floors. there is no gloss finish but they do shine when cleaned ... however there were speckles of paint and residue so with hot water we washed them down. Only my darling hubbie used a bit of a sponge, soft one, but the scrubby side non the less to lift the stubborn paint.
Now it look - in certain light - like little smudge marks on the floor.
Are they ruined, has he lifted the top coating of the floor or is there something we can do to buff n shine these little smudge areas?!

PLEASE HELP they are not even two weeks old!
