My 7 year old wrote a letter asking all of her friends in school to give E1 per week to help poor children. We thought this wasn't very appropriate, so we have suggested to her that we come up with an idea where she (and us) can help by volunteering with a childrens charity.

We have been racking our brains trying to come up with ideas and we've googled all the irish charities. The thing is we want to show her that she can give her time to help people and we want her to see the full effect of her act.

Does anyone have any ideas for us?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi OP. I think it's great that your daughter wants to give something to children in need. Given the time of year, how about buying a Christmas present that will benefit some of the world's poorest children? You can do this through various international non-governmental organisations. Take at a look at this site for instance. So basically, how it works is that your daughter can choose a gift from a catalog of presents and tell the organisation who she would like to send it to - for example you could buy a school bag kit, which will contribute to education projects. The organisation will then send your daughter a personalised gift card and poster showing the gift she bought. That way, she will be able to get a sense of how her gift will be used. You and your daughter can also be sure that your donation is going where it is most needed, helping children and their families living in some of the world's poorest countries.

That's just an idea, hopefully it will give you some inspiration. Good luck with whatever you decide!

    Hi Graflynn,
We are looking for a volunteering opportunity on Christmas this year with our 6.5 year-old. Please repost if you come up with anything!
