Christmas Beer

I like to get a few interesting beers to have during those hanging around the house days at Christmas. Can anyone recommend anything for this year?

Maybe something light to help wash down the turkey sandwiches.

    Thanks!

Christmas beers (or at least the ones I have tried) tend to be on the heavy side, being stronger in alcohol, sweeter and more full-bodied. Semichlaus would be my xmas tipple of choice. While not a Christmas beer, I'd imagine something like Delerium Tremens would really hit the spot with the Turkey. It's a lot lighter, but still packs a flavour (and alcohol) whack.

    +1 for Samichlaus. Lovely stuff.

Haven't ever seen it here in Ireland but Bush de Noël (no sniggering at the back please) is a lovely seasonal beer.

After a few of them at 12% vol. the turkey sandwiches would be the least of your problems!

Tuborg Juleøl (Christmas beer) is very good. Should be able to find it in specialist offie.

We get Diageo-brewed Tuborg pils. The Tuborg Juleøl you get in Norway is brewed at the Ringnes plant for the Norwegian market only. I understand Carlsberg in Denmark brew a different Tuborg Juleøl for the market there.

Beers like this rarely get imported: the speciality beer importers don't like touching big brewery products because if they succeed in making it popular, the local licence holder (Diageo for Carlsberg products in Ireland) will just take the beer from them as soon as it's making money.

So no Tuborg Juleøl for us. 8 Degrees have a spiced winter ale out, however, and Dungarvan have released a limited edition Coffee & Oatmeal Stout for the season.
