The first 3 of those have improved a lot since you left. M50 traffic much lighter, cabs a dime a dozen now and people way more preoccupied with threat of Poles and Nigerians than Presbyterians! TV licence and weather still **** when I left though....

Commuting in Dublin and the ensuing mess after big snow or rain
Waiting for a cab after a night out, still had this problem on a visit in Oct 2010.
    Narrow minded opinions and people
    Irish weather
    Bertie Ahern and his ilk
    Fair City
Howyas wearing pajamas at any time of day on the street
    Healthcare, medical costs

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,867 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

    - Skangers - even the scumbags over here are relatively polite.

    - Weather

    - Unplayable pitches

    - 1 and 2 cent coins definitely

    - Hardcore GAA and rugger heads

    - Celtic jerseys at every turn

    - Early closing nightclubs

    - Looooong bus routes and crap late night services

    - Overpriced sporting events

    - Scangers
    - Recession talk
    - General negativity
    - Media disregard for minority sports
    - Overhyping of certain GAA players who wouldn't achieve anything in an international sport
    - Crap weather
    - Irish women (to be brutally brutally honest)
    - Dublin Bus
    - Coppers
    - Stuck up D4 heads
    - People who consider Glasgow Celtic as an Irish team. They are based in the UK lads!!
    - Ford Super Sunday punters who wouldn't be caught dead at a local game but will spend fortunes going over to Manchester every year.
    - Idiots who ring up Joe Duffy about stupid sh1t.
    - The insane expectation that Ireland should be winning 5 Olympic gold medals in athletics, despite the fact we have no funding, f*ck all facilities (and tearing up one of our few tracks we have, at UCD), virtually no media coverage, and are a tiny country in a global sport, and then said idiots calling up said Joe Duffy moanfest giving out about our unforgiveable failure to beat the Jamaicans and the Kenyans.
    - Rubbish sporting organisations who are run by muppets - FAI, Athletics Ireland, Olympic Council of Ireland, IRFU.
    - General begrudgey towards a fellow countryman/woman who is more successful, and the constant need to bring them down and "put them in their place".
    - Kn0bs who play their scanger or ghetto music full blast on a bus.

    5. People who voted for Fianna Fail being elected more than once.
    6. Banks being more important than people.
    7. No specials on beers in pubs.

    Oh, thats 7, sorry.

I have to take issue with this, have you not seen how AFL & RL players are 'hyped-up' - especially when there's a code switch? AFL isn't an international sport and it's a stretch to call league one either.

    For me (but back home now :() it would be;
    Dublin's ugly skyline
Traffic & everything motor related. M50 may be 'improved' but it still raises my blood pressure driving on it:mad:
Urban sprawl (there's sprawl in Aus too but more places to escape it!)

Not having to pay into pubs and nightclubs in NZ was great. So was being able to get a taxi whenever, obviously this has changed now.

I've been gone from Ireland so long I can hardly remember what it was like to live there. (10 years).

The only thing I can think of is the weather. I don't miss getting the face frozen off me walking home uphill in Bray with the windchill factor making me want to cry and the freezing wind making my eyes water anyway.

The IRFU? Are you serious? They are one if not the best run Rugby Organisation in the world. What they have done to develop the game of Rugby over the last 15 years in Ireland is nothing more than outstanding.

    Mine
    • General Negativity
    • A society of entitlement
    • Welfare state mentality
    • Closed shop in many ogranistations and industry
    • Weather
    • A proper right wing political party
    • Joe "have a moan" Duffy
    • Begrudery
    • Not allowed to "have" success

    - Public Transport, especially Dublin Bus and the ability of "leaves on the track" to bring a whole rail system to a grinding halt.

    - Mass hysteria. 10 years of convincing ourselves the boom will never end and discussing it ad nauseum followed by years of everyone believing the bust will never end and "the country is fooked".

    - Lack of accountability in political system. Ineptitude or downright corruption is punished by early retirement on a six figure pension and seat on board of some quango.

    - Organising a BBQ and then watching from kitchen window as back garden floods and steaming BBQ floats away!

    Shite public transport
    The Weather
The 'Poor Childers' Joe Duffy Brigade
    Scumbags
    Pricey Car tax + Insurance

Bus timetables - telling you when it leaves the station rather than stop
    Recession talk
    Public Vs Private sector
Winter work - not seeing daylight.

What's with all the Joe Duffy hatin'? Quite like listening to his show...

Same, I get the podcasts every morning before work.

Keeps me up to date on current affairs and is more of a source of humour than anything else.

Mod Cleaned up a few posts here - it's about what you not miss from home, there is no right or wrong.

e.g. If people want a debate on the Irish Vs Aus welfare system - please do so in another thread. I don't want this to descend into a mass slagging match because of something you don't agree with

I just happened to tune into RTE's Morning Ireland just as they were doing the weather forcast....

Frost! Icy patches! Hail! Wintry showers!

I do not miss that! :D
