Is there any character in Star Trek that you think oh O wish they were turned into a Borg drone. For me its Admiral Sati. How there she question Picard and accuse him of been a traitor. Give her to the Borg I say.

The entire main cast of Discovery isn't far off a small collective...

I got such a Requiem for a Dream vibe off Assimilated Janeway

Anyone else following Songs Of Kahless on Instagram? The little story snippets under each photo are a nice touch but mainly it's an excuse for lots and lots of ship porn.

Out of curiousity, I'm looking to fill my kindle up with some pulp and was thinking about Trek. Obviously a very TV centric franchise but are there any books worth reading? Now, I mean "legitimate" fiction by good writers as opposed to glorified fan fiction where Kirk saves the universe from the Klingon-Borg. I've dabbled in Star Wars with mixed results; while I spent much of the late 90s & early 2000s reading the Dr. Who novels while the show was off air (sidebar, I kinda miss the Virgin / New Adventures). So I know these kind of extended universe books can vary in in tone or quality.

So any good books worth reading that aren't total trash? (Meant in the nicest possible way of course :) )

The Enterprise Romulan War books were good.

Also DS9 trilogy about the Bajoran Occupation "Terok Nor". The first book in the series is by James Swallow whose trek novels are superior entries in the series.

I liked mirror universe TNG novel Dark Mirror by Diane Duane.

The James Blish series of adaptations of the TOS scripts are savage.

If you like Klingon stories there was a Keith R deCandido series under the IKS Gorkon title.

If you like Q, Peter David did some very witty TNG novels. Fan fiction plots but quality writing.

There were some good entries in the Lost Era series set between TOS and TNG ... filling in gaps especially around Cardassia during this era.

The prequel novel to Picard was excellent imo. Just a pity the TV show didn't live up to the promise the book set up.

I haven't read them but wasn't there a comic book series that was part of the lead-in to Picard (it was also canon)?

Yeah Countdown. They were okay, very short. Sets some stuff up like Picard's Romulan friends but too short to really deliver a satisfying story imo.

I enjoyed season one of Pandora. Yes it was not perfect and sometimes the acting was a bit ropey but overall I found it entertaining and it even done somf of what Star Trek used go do Trek tackle issues in society like rape, slavery, clones etc.
Anyway the reason I am posting this is there is a good article about how it's related to Trek in some ways and that season two starts soon.

Oh I had heard about that show in passing fadó, but presumed it canceled as seemed to just slip under the radar. Honestly the moment I saw it was CW and had the usual array of beautiful American teenagers heading the cast, I mentally checked out. Kinda sick of CWs programming tactic of pretty-people soap opera snuck in through genre fiction.

That's trippy; though is a neat reminder that Copyright law is non-existent in China :D The Trek lawyers probably watched that and frothed at the mouth.

I'm actually curious as to what Star Trek gets translated to in Chinese bootlegs.

I'm sure everyone's already heard of Star Wars: The Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West.

Somewhat hopeful this is a sign that they're taking the same approach as Lower Decks and really leaning into established Trek lore.

Makes you wonder what Admiral Janeway's part would be in all of this. She'd make a great antagonist, representing a Starfleet who are trying to stop these kids running off in the starship they apparently find.
Not necessarily an "evil" antagonist, but someone who comes across as an authoritarian and will try to stop the kids flying into deep space "for their own good"...kind of thing...

Ye thars a lot alright. They have all gone up in price on it do and it is harder to find what you want and to buy from the site too. There is many more ships I would love to have from there but buying on the site is not enjoyable anymore so I stopped.

Any see or here about this new fan film about the Romulan war. It's actually very good the two videos but the 2nd one is better than the first. Worth a look.

I have far, far too many of those models at this stage! The refit Enterprise NX-01 is a pretty awesome model!

The shuttle prices are criminal though. There's one or two I'd like to have, but the price is insane.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,861 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

The only reason I don't have more is nowhere really to put them, but seeing as they are apparently going to go with the gold collection as seen on the show/in the movies, they would be good to have (the 1701 is up now too) - also the gold plating address the issue of incorrectly applied paint (which would annoy me especially at the cost!) as there isn't any!

I am tempted by that XL despite the price though. Maybe after payday.

I forgot there was another cartoon Trek on the way: hmmm with CoVid hobbing live-action shoots, and the generally positive reception towards Lower Decks I wonder how possible it is that the Trek franchise becomes a predominately animated one. That'd be kinda mad.

Wouldn't mind. Kind of enjoyed having a more alien Starfleet, instead of just more generic human members of the fleet.

Sure: if nothing else Lower Decks has been fascinating, just to watch - as you say - a more explicitly alien Starfleet. Wish the art style was a little less generic mind you but as is often the case with animated shows the only limit is one's imagination.

Controversial opinion of the day. I liked The Next Generation, but I didn't like the flying pizza cutter that was the Enterprise D.
