One of my pet peeves about the expanded Star Trek universe is how it makes the universe so small. Everything seems to be interconnected with each other.

McCoy in first TNG. Picard meets Spok, Sarak, Scotty, Kirk.
Picard meets Sisco. Sisco takes O Brien, Sisco takes Worf. Worf happens to have the Defiant at Earth for First Contact.
Voyager meets Quark, Riker on Voyager, Barkley encounters Voyager.

Prime and canon, of the top of my head

Well it would make sense for the Defiant to be part of the fleet defending Earth. And if Picard wasn't allowed to command the Enterprise in the battle because of recent experiences that would rule Sisko out too so Worf commanding the Defiant makes sense.

I kind of wish there were more arcs involving both DS9/TNG crews.

In First Contact, the woman is confronting Picard about his 'white whale' and Picard snapping and his line no further speech. Imagine if that was Sisko confronting him :P

When Sisko first meets Picard he is so angry and rude to him. Then the prophets help him realise his anger is irrational. Now Sisko can help Picard with his issues :P

Better than Insurrection and Nemesis anyway, they were awful. DS9 should have gotten a film.

I'm not saying it's never happened in the tv shows but the books go into overkill. Worf is the second in command of the Defiant. Voyager was docked at DS9 because it was going to the badlands.

So Emony Dax meets McCoy. Fine.

The in the Lives of Dax
Audrid Dax met Christoper Pike and the parasites from TNG
    Tobin Dax met Spocks grandfather
    Curzon Dax met Sulu
    Torias met Admiral Kirk
    Ben Sisko met Janeways Dad

There's a character in the books called Elias Vaughan who takes part in nearly every single major event in Starfleet history and was responsible for saving Bajor and liberating Betazed. The books go way into interconnecting everything than the occasional crossovers on the TV show.

As far as I can tell, there isn't a person alive that isn't connected to a Dax.

    Mirror Tuvok in DS9

EMH appears in DS9/First Contact, Zimmerman in DS9

    Tom Riker on DS9

    And Doctor Bashir on TNG

Heh, remember Admiral Hanson from Best of Both Worlds? He assigned Deanna Troi to the Enterprise!
Deanna was also kidnapped along with Worfs son by Sela (!!) and Thomas Riker! Troi was also responsible for counselling the crew of Voyager when they got back to Earth.

I just find the books terrible in this respect.

All realistic, feasible situations though. Compare that to this level of fan fiction horsepoo from Star Trek Renegade:
Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok, Voyager* 's former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section 31, Starfleet's autonomous intelligence and defense organization. Tuvok must put together a new covert, renegade crew – mostly outcasts and rogues – and even criminals. This new crew is tasked with finding out what is causing the folding of time and space, and stopping it at all costs. But will they be able to put aside their differences and stop trying to kill one another in time to accomplish their mission?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Renegades

It's always the same, next it'll be a 150 year old Picard teaming up with Ezri Dax & her daughter Jadzia, to go behind enemy lines so they can disseminate a secret, forbidden weapon to finally rid the galaxy of an all new, ultra powerful threat. For the most part, non canon is absolute garbage imo (with some notable exceptions).

More interesting, is why they didn't implement it for the Dominion war (in conjunction with the other allies)...I suppose though it's not something you want in development with shapeshifters infiltrating & taking the research for themselves.

They had a cloaking device on the defiant didnt they? on loan from the romulans i think? This thread is making me want to watch DS9 again.

They did, though it wasn't a 'phasing' cloak like we seen on the Pegasus :)

Considering Picard had 1100 people on crew, that's not that impressive

Given what we now know about Bashir and his struggle to identify as human , it seems like exploring this relationship is a missed oppourtunity.

Julians naive interest in data's ability to mimic humanity is certainly cast in a different light now.

Well, he is a bit enhanced.

He was illegally genetically enhanced as a child, by his parents who felt he was falling behind, & who just wanted the best for their son (in an understandable, yet misguided fashion). At no point whatsoever, is Julian portrayed as struggling to 'identify as a human'. He may have hid the truth, to protect his parents, but jesus, the guy is human, how can he struggle to identify as one.
