I've decided to get and iPad as a christmas gift for someone but i'm just wondering since i'm going to spend the money for an iPad i think i should look at other tablets before rushing into buying the ipad. I don't know too much about tablets so looking for some suggestions about weather the ipad is the best there is and if not does anyone have any suggestions to better alternatives within the price range of the 16gb ipad (without 3G).
    Cheers !

I think it depends a lot on how computer literate the person you are buying for is. if they will only useif for browsing/games/email then it doesn't matter whether you get an Android or an iPad however if they would prefer to have a restriction free device that can also play flash sites then the only option is an Android.
Currently i think the best Android tablet available is the Xoom version 1 due to the high spec and low cost. You should be able to pick up a 32GB WIFI version for less than €350.

The question is, why iPad? No USB Ports, no card reader, no flash in the browser, everything must go on there through iTunes (which is horrible on a windows PC) and it's fussy about the formats it plays. Then there's the fact that it's a disposable item, has a battery glued inn place in a sealed unit. With Android you have none of these problems.

I've used both the Ipad 2 and asus transformer. While the asus has higher specs I still prefer the Ipad overall. Bought it 4 months ago and have no regrets.Although... If ur after an android based tablet...the transformer is the one to go for imo.
