irish historian honoured

    Does anyone know the name of the irish historian who, not more than two months ago got some sort of an award from, perhaps, Trinity. Or maybe he was a professor in Trinity. It was on the rte news at the time.
    He wrote about the decline of the roman empire and he didn't follow the same thought on it as his colleagues.

    Oh God, just opened your link. the name Peter Brown (historian) caught my eye immediately, surmounted by the photo of fabulously mustachioed fiesty faced gentleman.
    Jeez, he doesn't look Irish!
    So I looked again and he isn't. It's Dr. Sengai Podhuvan. Phew!
