I'm so sick of this, going round in fcuking circles, feeling like shight.

It affects my work, my relationships, my friendships, everything.

I feel like Im becoming more removed from the world to, like the easiest thing to do is sleep and hide away from the world.

It affects my work and this upsets me as I'll never develop my career being like this. Its like things just get worse I just want to hide away from the world.

Oh sounds like you're very down at the moment efb. :( I have felt the very same way at times and i'm sure lots of us on this thread have too.

Sometimes I can shift that feeling by doing something new. Like Snowie suggested looking at your diet or maybe trying a new form of exercise. But you should definitely start with letting your doctor know how bad you are feeling. It might be time to try medication or change to a different one for example.

That urge to hide away from the whole world is natural and a huge part of depression. Sometimes you do just need to take some time for yourself, but it can be very isolating not feeling able for socialising etc. And the longer it goes the harder it is to break the habit.

Maybe try doing it in small measures. Like instead of a whole night out, just an hour or so over coffee with a friend can be less daunting and you will feel the benefit of spending time with someone you like. Explaining to a trusted friend how you're feeling can be really helpful too. I know you have a lot on your plate right now but even a quick chat or short visit with a friend can help you feel so much better.

Uurgh hate that. Life is hard enough for you just now without trying to cope with it when you're sleep deprived as well!

Really you need to talk to your doctor asap this needs to be nipped in the bud because you'll only feel worse without proper rest.

Oh yeah good point. Is it from the stress and depression? My sleep patterns have always been weird I'm pretty sure I have delayed sleep phase disorder. Not a whole lot I can do about it though:(

Had a busy week. Played golf on Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon.

Attended seminar over last two days. Unable to sleep in hotel. Feeling absolutely exhausted. So tired this pm I could not drive my car. Mrs. Del had to drive my car., while I slept in passenger seat. On arrival home I went straight to bed and slept soundly for 3 hours.

Weather for next Sunday looking good, hope to catch up on some zzzzzzzs!

    Have a good weekend everyone:)

Fair play to you for saying "I'm too tired to drive," I know a lot of people who won't admit to that out of pride and one who had a very bad craash because he fell asleep at the wheel. Nobody was hurt thank God, but his car was a write-off and he and his family were very shaken up at the near miss. Driving when you're tired can be so dangerous. A guy in my dad's work died driving home because he fell asleep (he was a shift worker).

I've been unusually busy this week too, I went out on three days as opposed to my usual one!

Went to a BBQ at a neighbour's it was a 50th birthday thing, I was having a really really bad pain day and I'd got up at 8;30 am (a minor miracle :D) so I had to leave early while the 50 yr olds partied until 3 am!! Sometimes I feel like I'm eighty :(

Also had some unusual expenses so the iPod fund took a battering :( But I went and played with one in the shop today and that helped to motivate me so I am determined to get this yoke if it kills me :D

And I managed to get my prescription refilled before I ran out of pills and went into withdrawal for the third month in a row so I'm feeling pretty accomplished hehe. Small things that other people wouldn't think twice about are somehow a huge challenge for me so I feel pleased whenever I manage them. On Tuesday I ate two meals and you'd think I'd won the Nobel prize or something :pac:

I am not in a good way today. My father has been ill for the last couple of months, was in hospital for tests and now he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Given that my older sister had a massive stroke late last year and I myself am suffering from depression and bad anxiety this news is too much to bear.

I am feeling very fragile at the moment - it's like I'm trapped in a living nightmare. :(

    JK,

Wow! I am sincerely very sorry to hear that your Dad and Sister are unwell.

This is certainly very tough on you. My thoughts are with you as endeavour to deal with their illnesses as well as your own.

Please try and deal with your own issues first, harsh words you may think. You need to meet with your GP and fully acquaint them with how you feel and the issues faced by your loved ones.

It is important for yourself and your family that you remain strong. I am certain you can do this by following the advice of your Medical Advisors.

This will enable you support your Dad and Sister whom you love

Please keep us updated here on your on your progress.

On behalf of your Boardsie friends here I send you a big hug.

Please take great care of yourself, because you are worth it!:)

    Best wishes,

    Del

    Welcome to Boards,
With generic drugs being prescribed now, I can't say I am familiar with the name. My advice as a fellow sufferer is to at least follow the advices of your doctor, whilst also giving them regular feedback on progress or lack of with any medication. A drug prescribed for 2 people with depression may have different results.
    Thank you for your post.

What do people with no med card or money do.
You go see a doc and they want €50.00

I often wonder the same thing. People visit the doc cos they're worried about something, then if its serious its going to cost more and if its nothing you just wasted €50! There has to be a better way.

No. Perhaps you are feeling low at the moment.Whyever would you hurt yourself?

There must be alternatives. I am sure no GP will refuse to see you for not having €50 in your pocket

If you require assistance, have you considered contacting the Samaritans?

If you are in an unsafe place at the moment, have you considered admitting yourself to hospital and seek the necessary assistance.

Please take good care of yourself

Thats's terrible JupiterKid. It's awful when someone we love is ill. We can't fix it for them even if we'd give our eye teeth to just make them be okay. I'm sure that this is not helping your state of mind at all.

Really I can't say anything that's going to make it better, but I understand what you're going through and I wish you and your dad and sister all the best. Have the doctors given any indication of the prognosis? Many people recover well from cancer, I hope that your dad has been diagnosed early enough to have a good chance.

Try to make sure that you eat and sleep properly even though life is stressful and probably very busy just now. If you are making frequent trips to the hospital and maybe taking on extra errands and whatnot to support your dad, don't let it wear down your own physical health as that will only make it harder for you to cope. Is there someone close to you who can give you support and a listening ear when you need it? That can be immensely helpful.

I imagine that you mentioned to your doctor the bad effects you had with the other antidepressants you've tried? It's not unusual to have to try a few different medications before you find the right one for you. Try to give the cymbalta a chance - I do understand that feeling of wariness but don't set yourself up to fail by convincing yourself "this won't work."

I've been on a few different antidepressants in the past, lexapro is working for me at the moment, but the previous ones didn't do a lot. And I've had a similar journey with the various pain meds - I've had a few Trainspotting-type experiences! Never had to go toilet fishing though, thank god;)

It's worth it though, when you do find the right fit. Medications are a bit fiddly sometimes but the fact is that your brain chemistry is off and the right meds will help to combat that problem just like antibiotics fighting an infection. Sadly we can't all just take a pill and cure our depression, but meds are a very helpful part of treatment. Give it a shot with the cymbalta and sure if it doesn't work for you, you'll still have other options.

I don't know if you're a drinker but one piece of advice, try not to mix antidepressants and alcohol. At best it will counteract the meds, at worst it can make you really nauseous.

It can be very difficult to afford medical fees when you don't qualify for a medical card and don't have a lot of spare cash. I've been there:(

There is a GP visit card that you can apply for, it's designed for people who don't qualify for a med card but who are on a lower income, it takes into account things like rent expenses etc. It allows you to visit the doctor for free. Perhaps you would qualify for this? I would put a link here but I'm on an old iPod touch and it's a bit awkward. I can post the link tomorrow though.

I want you to have a good look at the people in your life and ask yourself, can you honestly say that there isn't at least one person who would be devastated if you did anything to hurt yourself? I know that sometimes it feels as though we're totally alone and that no-one cares. But it's your mind playing tricks on you.

I know that it sounds trite, but no matter how down and despairing you feel right now, you won't always feel this way. It will get better. You may find it hard to see your way out of the darkness right now, but please don't give up. If you do anything to hurt yourself you deny yourself the chance to get better.

As Del suggested the Samaritans are a great service you can call on when you are low. The depression charity Aware could also help, there is no charge for their help and they are very experienced and understanding.

Edit: Here's a link to the Citizens Information page about GP visit cards :)
Here are the guidelines for assessing who is eligible for a medical or GP card. There are tables at the end showing the different income limits but do note all the things that can be taken into account like rent, medical costs, anything that means paying full price for a doctor's visit would place "undue hardship" on you.hope this helps :)

I've never brought it up here before, but aware is probably the best place I've been. Just saw that starling mentioned it at end of the last post, and it reminded me of how much help they have given me. The fact that it is free makes it such a bonus. If you are interested in group therapy, it can give you a lift to attend it. I was terrified going at the start but by my second meeting, I felt like I was surrounded by long lost friends that suddenly came back again. Highly recommend going to aware. I like seeing the way it cheers people up. Lots of people go into the meetings distraught, but by the time they finish, they could be in a completely different mood.
    Good luck

Still doing quite well for myself. It's not perfect, mind you, but what is?

I started seeing a therapist earlier in the year but a few weeks back we both decided to put it on hold for the time being. I was doing good enough that he even asked me if I was wondering if I still needed to be there. I'm still on the books though, and I'll go back if I have to.

I had a meeting with a CBT practitioner last week; it was a waste of time because she told me there was nothing she could do for me in such a small space of time (I have to leave the UK and move back to Ireland on Wednesday). Does anyone know if you can access CBT through the public heath system in Ireland, like you can through the NHS? There's no way in hell I could afford to do it privately. I do have a medical card but it expires in January, and applying for renewal can sometimes take ages.

On the whole I've actually been doing ok for the past couple of weeks. The biggest problem by far I'm having with my Efexor is the seemingly constant sweating. It makes me feel really self conscious and uncomfortable. :( I've started using Driclor, hopefully that will help some bit.
