Anyone know where I can get vinyl albums in Limerick (new or second hand)?

I searched the forum and there was an old thread that said Little Catherine St (over the religious shop) and Empire Music (shows how old the thread was!)

    Anywhere else?

I have a load of records in the attic. what kind of vinyl albums you looking for ? I've mostly dance mix's and old skool rave..

Depends on what music your into? Beats working in Foxes bow do vinyl but as the name suggests its more for dj's. If its regular music you're after most record labels stopped making vinyl years ago.

My brother is just getting into it now. He has a small collection of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd and stuff like that. He also has some Pearl Jam.

He is specifically looking for Pearl Jam's Ten or Versus (for a Christmas present), but I'll pick up some old 60s-80s that I know he likes if I spot it.

    tl;dr version: No dance/techno. :o

HMV have a shelf of vinyl just inside the door on Cruise's Street, but they're pricey.

Go to the milkmarket and look for doc inside on a Friday (could also be Sunday can't remember), (red stall just in the gate on the right)

Hit the charity shops, i was in hunting for retro video games and they often have lots of records in there. I'm sure there is a lot of old rubbish but also i'm sure there is some gems in there as well.

The one on little catherine street has the best collection in Limerick tbh. It's not great, but I can't think of anywhere else in Limerick that has a better selection.

You could try the car boot sale in Barrington's car park on Sundays.

So it looks like Limerick isn't great for vinyl (shocker) :)

I went in early this morning and tried a few second hand shops (no luck). HMV's selection is awful (about 5 copies of Kate Bushes new one, 10 copies of Mylo Xyloto and a few other random records).

The place I wanted to check out (on Little Catherine St.) wasn't open until 10:30 and I couldn't hang around, so I might go in at lunchtime later this week.

    RIP the black spot!!!!!

I've taken to collecting the odd Picture Disc here and there mainly from ebay.
I wanted to get some that represented bands I liked as a teenager, and the plan was to buy a vinyl frame and mount them on the wall of my hobby room at home. (yet to be done roll on a few years....)

Bought a turntable/cd/usb combo from argos lately (its rubbish)
and was shocked by just how much warping was in the vinyl I had purchased from ebay and stuff I had bought from the black spot years ago.
Loved the Raw sound you got from Vinyl that seems to be lost with CD's and MP3's that tend to DE-naturalise the sound and tend to cut off things the Human ear does not hear to cut down on file sizes etc.

Have a few pics of some of the stuff I've been collecting.
    some 80's/90's gothy/pop stuff.
(Metal Band Vinyl seems to go for mental prices on ebay)

Those things are NASTY, but how much quality can you expect from a E60 piece of rubbish?
I transfer my vinyl to cd and mp3 (mostly for myself) via a Kenwood KD990, through a Yamaha AX500, which is plugged into an ancient Soundblaster (they are actually quite good).
With the right software (Cool Edit, Adobe Auditions granddad), you can precisely control the levels, remove crackle (if you so wish) and equalise the sound.
If you have an old record player, or know anyone who has one, you'd be better off to plug it into the soundcard and you can use something like Audacity and get great results for very little money.
The main problem with USB audio converters is that they do the same as your soundcard does anyway, only a lot sh*ttier.
It's a hell of a lot more fun than wrestling with a piece of sh*t like those USB record players and you learn a lot more.
And the results might just amaze you.
As for vinyl, it's getting harder these days, but wait for vinyl bazars to come up, charity shops can have the odd find, otherwise ebay, or go to a bigger city that has proper second hand record shops, pretty kack in Limerick.

I heard there was a place in Foxes Bow, but couldn't see anywhere obvious there. What is the name of the shop? Is it a separate section in a shop that sells something completely different? :)

In the middle of Foxes bow there is a small alley way, (on the right side if your comming from Thomas St., Left Side if your comming from William St.)

    Nice collection!

They say that the audio quality of them isin't as good as the normal vinyl, but they're definitely nice to have and the overall packaging of vinyl is part of the charm of it. Interesting to see the new bands that make effort with their vinyl - Richard Hawley puts a lot of work into his for example.

Have a few pic discs myself, Beatles - Abbey Road and Stone Roses - Second Coming are two I got for a song!

Btw, Mr E if you are having trouble finding it, in the new year I can show you where it is some day if you'd like.

There are no decent spots to buy vinyl in Limerick, just spots that are not as bad in terms of range (and vinyl condition) than others.

In terms of bricks and mortar stores, Dublin, Belfast and Cork are the only cities that have shops with semi decent ranges physically in store.

I tend to buy most of my vinyl either online or I buy when I go back to Liverpool. Another good reason to buy new online or in the UK is the price. A lot of vinyl is horribly overpriced in Ireland, and even when P+P(If applicable) and currency conversion are taken into account, you can often get the exact same records at between 1/3 to 1/2 less than the Irish rip off price.

People might say buy local, but I am only prepared to pay a certain amount extra on any item before I decide I don't want to be totally ripped off and just buy elsewhere.
