Wages dont play a part in results?!?! I've no idea how anyone who watches the modern game could think that. It is everything.

We can be romantic about it and say its 11 v 11 and anything can happen, and poor old Spurs having to put out just the likes of Pavlyuchenko, Defoe and even being forced to play some of the youngsters they've handpicked from across the world, but its still a different world to the one most football clubs operate in.

Anything can happen in football, but it rarely works out that way. How many games have Luxembourg, San Marino or Andorra ever won? How many times have a top four team in England been knocked out of the FA Cup by a team from League One or below. No point being romantic about it, the richer, bigger teams win more often than not. If we pull of a shock tonight it would be fantastic for our club, and will take a herculean effort from our lads. Realistically though, we've not got a chance though as the odds have been completely stacked against us by the likes of the bloke in this thread from Tallaght who's referring to a team on his doorstep as "them lot" while cheering on a team of Russians, Mexicans, Cameroonians etc.

bottom line is , its the biggest game in the world for you lot tonight where as for us its a party in dublin tonight for our 3rd string

Why is there so much butt hurt from rovers fans?

"Real fans" support their local clubs... we get it.

I really can't wait till all this shíte is over and at least we don't have to read anymore of the same tripe about the LOI and Barstoolers.

Good luck in the match BTW.

I`ve never seen a players bank balance win a match!! I have seen their class and talent win matches alright.

We need to Win and Rubin loose with six goals between us. If Rubin loose 1-0 we have to win 5-0 and so on.

What are the chances that Rubin and PAOK play out a boring draw?

I dunno, important to top the group. I can see them going for it too.

Yeah good point. I could see us getting a 5-0 away win with our 1st team but doubt it with the youngsters - it would take defoe going on the rampage or something...

As much as i like Kane he has seemed a little off the pace... granted he is still young!

We might scamble the win but I don't think it'll be pretty viewing. Rovers gave a great account of themselves last time out. Few goals from either side would be nice.

Anyone know if any Irish (or any other countries) radio stations are commentating on the match tonight? I'm in Toronto and BBC 5 live doesn't allow you to listen from here (and can't use proxies in work)

    Thanks

PAOK 1-0 up and a sending off for Ruben too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

Bit of consusion here in the stand. Do we need one or two more?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,059 ✭✭✭Pacing Mule

Was just about to ask the same ...

They went in with For 10 Against 4
We went in with For 5 Against 4

    At the moment its

    Ruben For 10 Against 5 (+5)
    And us For 8 Against 4 (+4)

So even if we score one more making it +5 we would have scored 1 less than they did.

If you go down the line of results for the two teams counting first that's an even result 1-0 and 1-0 for both home teams.

So unless it comes down to who scored first in the games between the sides I think we do need 2 more of a swing.

(BBC have been quoting a 5 goal swing but I can't see how that is enough)

Edit - we scored first as our home game was against them first. Would be great if that was the rule.

We go through if we win by 5 and kazan loose

As it stands, we are 1 behind in goal difference. So 2 more goals and we go through (assuming it stays the same with PAOK).

    As it stands now...

    Position Team P GD PTS
    1 PAOK 6 5 14
    2 Rubin 6 5 10
    3 Spurs 6 4 10
    4 Rovers 6 -14 0

    1-1 in Greece

1-1 with PAOK/Kazan atm, so it doesn't matter what happens in Dublin.

Thank god that's the end of it. I'm not gonna lie. Freezing my balls off in the stand I really missed my barstool pint and warm room. Saying that I enjoyed stuffing them no end :)

Am I supposed to be ashamed or upset by our performance last night? As my post on the last page made clear, we never had a chance against them. The only thing I was upset over all night was seeing those freaks hiding behind the Spurs dugout with an Irish tricolour and a British teams crest on it. I could hardly believe that.
