Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, but now they are issuing insurance discs of exemption for the cars. Same way they are exempt from car tax, but they display tax discs, they are now doing it with insurance discs. Probably some sort of optics thing for Joe Public....

On Garda cars? I've yet to see one with an actual valid one, some units would take a disc out of a confiscated car and throw on a few extra holders so they wouldn't stand out as much.

No, it was an NCT cert. There was a 3 cert holder in the windscreen.

Noteworthy too, there was an 08 Mk4 Mondeo estate behind it, with heavily tinted front and back windows, that had small LEDs in the grille. The car was a Ghia spec with alloys. My first thoughts were that it was a removal hearse, but maybe not?

    Specialist unit.

They have many a car you wouldn't even dream of been a Garda car.

Sure some cops didn't know they have Skoda Kodiaq since 2018.

Unless the Mondeo was an ex Garda car then as I already stated some fitted the extra holders as to not stand out so much....

Sure it's like the i40s now, they stand out so bad as per the poverty spec...

The 07 Mondeo was odd really. I should have taken a picture, but probably for the best that I didn’t. The reg was 07-D-5025 or something like that, 4 digits anyway. There was an air freshener hanging from the mirror, no big deal obviously but not something I see too often in Garda cars, and it had odd hubcaps on the offside wheels. Again not a big deal, but not something I see/notice too often.

I don’t think it was trying to blend in personally, it was so obviously a Garda car otherwise. Stood out a mile off. Just the discs in the window that made me look twice

I've seen a few. It's a State Claims Agency disc that goes in the window.

Yes some of the Harcourt street ones have it that the top brass drive as they don't tend to look like Garda cars and some don't have much equipment in them.

On the beat cars don't have these.

I pass by a house near where I live that I believe regularly has an AGS parked outside. 5 series saloon, 5 series estate, Mitsubishi Shogun, Landcruiser, you never know what it will be. Although nothing obvious externally that it is a Garda car, there is no insurance disk. What's the point in being so low profile, but not getting a dummy insurance disk.

I figured as much, so even more reason to have a dummy disk. Just seems counter intuitive to go to the trouble of having the specialist cars, but not the most obvious tell that has been around for years.

Will the 300C be the NSW Police's Hyundai!? Ball of ****e of a car!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

They already use Hyundai Sonata's and Santa Fe's and even i40s.

Never seen the 300c on my travels but came across the 530d's a few times. Used to see them in the outback too, amazed they went with the M Sport with so many dirt roads over there. Also seen a highway patrol XC60 as well.

Police in Victoria also use TSi Passat estates.

No mention of lights in his post, merely the lack of an insurance disc....

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 7,717 Mod ✭✭✭✭delly

Correct, no mention of lights or anything else obvious, but just as a test, I put one of the reg numbers into the Motor Tax site to see if it was your standard 520 or something a little better. It turns out it is a juicy 530, not too shabby. The next part is even worse than having no insurance disk. The section on the Motor Tax site that allows you to calculate the motor tax by reg number said that the reg number wasn't listed. You couldn't make it up, so any GS car that is tax exempt under the system, will have an easy way for any member of the public to verify if it is a GS car, absolutely ridiculous!

Can against an Audi A8 (or 6/7 not sure) but it had light LEDs in the front grill 181 /191 reg thought it was unusual no other cars with it. D reg.

Only saw it briefly as it passed.

Anyone witnes the fun on m50 about 30 minutes ago? It got away...pursuit of a golf r, 32 units involved headed missing towards Dundalk. We listened in from a leafy suburb hoping it would come our way :(

P.S. st focus back on the road two days also involved and the golf left it for dead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

Assume you mean a proper golf R, not R line. While it is a faster car on paper then the Focus ST it wouldn't leave it for dead in fairness. Most likely it just backed off for safety reason.

GolfR, the ST lads were side by side with in blanchardstown when it failed to stop, the ASU Q7 was the closest to it,

A little update somehow it has ended up at the red cow traffic blockade currently in place

Just seen a video of it on facebook, Q7 on the M50 looking like its doing at least 200 km/h afterwards followed by a flock of i40's. ST Focus looked like it was far behind tbh, unless there's more than one. Some are saying it was a Golf R others are saying it's a 1 series probably an m135i or m140i.

I'd say the golf R would comfortably leave an ST behind, even if you assume it's stock.

Opel Insignia Estate unmarked with Red/Blue on the front dash. First time I have even seen red in the front.

Bought of eBay most likely, have one that fits on sun visor and it's exactly that but worst part is I wanted the orange and white and they shipped the wrong one.

Saw that Insignia a couple of years back on Church St with sirens going, red/blue dash master too.

All ES vehicles are subject to EU standardisation. No flashing red lights are to be visible from the front of the vehicle. Sounds bogey as fook

Go onto AliExpress and you'll have lights and siren for under €50.

Patrol cars only permit use of red on the back of the car not the front. Rear reds with blue, front blue and white

Insignia estates up at Harcourt St, maybe someone up at the Depot colour blind ....cousin of the guy who swopped sirens between the Transit connect and an X5. Heard the whiney siren up by the Green, expected the Transit but an X5 arrived

The same as new unmarks coming out and bikes too!

Yeah it’s not like the US or Oz whereby they can same colours all around the car, I know the transit connect you are speaking about they have that along with the LWB transit in pearse all have the same sounders, very UK like sound,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Does this mean they are changing back to the louder sirens, the best we had were in the focus and Mondeo 2007 era.

I think it’s to do with warrents out of the uk after all the bmw issues with retrofitting lights in depot not being covered under the warranty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

The sirens on the Q7 are brutal too and I find the front blues on the overhead light bar poor as they all flash together, it doesn't stand out as much as either side....

If it was someone acting the bollox in their own car I'd imagine they'd have come to more attention in the space of a few years.

Haven't heard anything about the lad in the seat with the Garda sticker in rear window and led blocks in Windows

I think someone said he removed them.

But it's unlikely that someone is driving an Insignia estate around for at least three years without coming to more notice.

I’ve seen that car nearly everyday up until I heard he was summoned to coolock presumably to show the car to someone. I haven’t seen it since.

I had an incident about a year ago when a navy estate VW golf 02 MH shot by on my way home at Santry cross had full reds and blue with a whaler Russian police car type sound from it.
I have a quick enough car so I went after it an lads in swords picked it up. That was a fake patrol car. He claimed to be a medical first responder and was going to a call.

People just have a fantasy about driving a garda car lol it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, majority of the time your shouting a the speedometer move...
