Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lead vehicle in a tpac manoeuvre seems likely!

From that damage I'd say it was stopped.

That smashed up BM is an X5 hard to make out at the angle of the car, as stated already on the other thread.

They have around the 300hp mark, would love one.

Those Land Cruisers look class with the hidden blue lights at the bottom foot well.

That Landcruiser must be getting on a bit now! What is it, 2006?

Seen silver one at Harcourt and rear bumper is split all the way down from the boot cut line down through where the reflector should be....

Those Land cruisers will be around for a long time yet, they'd do very little patrol work and would only be driven for special operations, such as that one.
I see Traffic don't seem to have many of them left. I spotted one on the Nass Road a few weeks back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭Parapara2017

Sure NAS still has pre 2000 Isuzus operational, plenty of.life in her yet! :P

Theres 5 brand new white mondeos up in Clonshaugh, (the place that kits out and marks the cars). Now it doesnt mean there for the Guards as they do work for all emergency services.

Ill keep an eye out keep an eye out on who they are for.

    Its a disgrace Joe!

The convoy for William and Kate drove by me yesterday:

    1x 191 reg BMW x5
    1x 201 reg BMW x5
    1x 192 reg BMW x7
    1x 161 reg Range Rover
Several older garda Pajero, 5 series, i40 and garda bikes

The range rover is definitely armored and presumably owned by UK royalty or security services, not sure about the BMWs.

The BMW's are most likely to be from BMW Ireland and the RR from JLR UK.

I imagine unmarked and whatever they can get there hands on. No chance of getting them marked up quickly

I wouldn't think they'll even get sirens or lights installed. Presume they will be for community policing and moving gardai to different situations rather than emergency response.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Wonder will they use db or others to ferry them about if big numbers are been used?

All this talk of the army, people really are trying to cause panic.

On the rentals they could fit them out like in France and Germany where personal cars can be used, stick a light on dash, sun visor and or roof light with siren built in.

Dang will have to keep an eye out for all them white rental vans etc..

The job regularly uses rentals. If there's a big investigation ongoing they may get them in. Same for trials.

I'd say they'll be used for transporting members from stations to areas for patrol. Or welfare calls. They won't be frontline response vehicles.

Yeah was expecting that, they really are expecting problems if they need over 200.

This week will be very strange if things happen like over the waters....

UK seems extremely laid back about it all.

200 is not that much when you spread them across the whole country. Especially with units working 12 hour shifts.

07 Land Cruiser with roads policing. Is that still a regular op vehicle?

Back to a simpler time, remember the maroon Victors ? No expensive battenberg markings or lightbars, just an old Hella beacon, nee-naw horn, and GARDA on the doors:cool:

No noise pollution back then, like an air raid siren, my all time favourite, there’s a model version in the station I will have to take when the 30 is up lol.

The old Sierras with the massive sounder on the roof lol you couldn’t beat that

Ugh.... Seriously need proper tools to police...

My absolute favourite was the unmarked Ford Granada with the sort of flat rotating beacon in the corner. Would that have been special branch at the time?

It’s a good insight into the job but only shows you the anti social behaviour side or public order incidents of it rather than the full picture.
I know the majority of members in that show and the guff they receive is tenfold compared to the show. One particular member after the show aired. I think the fiesta chase illustrates that the Hyundai’s don’t cut it as a primary patrol car unfortunately. When the unmarked unit does a u turn to join, he had to repeat his radio trans as the car was screaming for a gear lol.
It’s cringey because it has to show the “action” side of the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,611 ✭✭✭California Dreamer

Well whatever little chance there was in the past there will be no money for any new cars for the next few years. Its a shame really and that is one of part that makes a members job that bit easier. We'll see those Hyundais in another 7 years time

In fairness no matter what your in it will always be loud when up in the high rpm. The diesels though do sound horrid when driven like that especially if they've a narrow power band.

Also cringed when I saw how quick they went over them ramps. Them and the ones around dunsink, plunket etc can very easily wreck a car if you don't crawl over them.

I never understand why its unmarked cars leading those chases! Nearly every video iv seen of a garda chase in Ireland is lead by an unmarked car. Surely it makes sense from a safety point of view to have a traffic corps car lead the chase in a vehicle that is lit up like a Christmas tree!

Maybe having an armed unit in an unmarked as the lead would take priority? Just an assumption
