Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, you read the thread title right. I just received back completed interview questions directly from Yusaku Yamamoto, editor in chief of Shooting Gameside magazine!

I shall post the interview on my blog this evening, I just couldn't contain my trouser custard any longer since the email landed in my inbox this morning.

Is this real SHMUP PORN? :D

EDIT: The article is now live here: http://www.pinkbullets.co.uk/blogs/?p=236

I hope you enjoy it. :)

    Quite a scoop!
    Look forward to reading it.

    Thanks Adultappleflavouredbeveragemale!

It's a rather brief interview (the language barrier was a huge issue) but Yamamoto-San was really friendly and answered all the questions. A few eye openers too!

I'll post tonight. Hope you lot enjoy the article. Interviewing Yamamoto-San was like meeting the Pope.... Or watching Mairead Farrell and Jennifer Maguire wrestling in the nip in beans. :D

    That's awesome, what an exclusive!

I was actually watching this video on the train this morning when the email arrived. Reminded me a bit of the awesome Guitar Wolf when the email popped up on my iPad.

    Wahoooo!

Anyway, yes I'm just deciding today how to use the info I have. Regular question format or put them in to a longer article. I'll probably go with the latter and flesh it out with lots of 'stuff'. Delighted anyway, cheers all! :)

    Fookin' awesome!

...the interview answers will be printed in English, right??? :pac:

Also, will you be printing it out and sniffing it?

Aye the interview is in English. Yamamoto-san actually answered my questions is English anyway so it's all good! It will be in English and repeated in (probably very badly Google translated) Japanese too.

Had a few back and forth emails with him today too so a bit more to add to the interview including some comments on Darius Burst EX!

Feel free to print it out and sniff it at your leisure. :)

Excellent stuff dude thanks, very well written too. It would be brilliant if they did manage to produce an English language version in PDF.

Cheers chief, much appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed, I hold hope for an English language release too, for now I will continue just looking at the pages!

Some writing buddy, what a great read.
"44 page (!) feature on the Darius series"
U must have died and gone to Heaven :)

Dare I ask but whats your Top 5?
Or better still what would be your Top 5 Shrumps on Mame
that you'd recommend with easy pick up for newbies?

On my machine, I love likes of 1943, Aerofighters, Strikers.

    Cheers lads, much appreciated. :)

Many moons ago, I confess I had an interview at Future Publishing for PC Gamer magazine. I sat the interview but couldn't relocate. Before and ever since then, I've always enjoyed writing, not just video games but writing in general. Wish I'd stuck with it as I really enjoy it (regardless of if the standard is on par with the pro's or not, I don't care I enjoy it). :)

As for newbie shooters, hmm, I actually wouldn't recommend any of the Darius games for beginners. Or Mars Matrix for that matter. ;)

Not sure what to suggest really, good idea for a blog feature though! I shall report back soon!

As for the Darius article, yes, even though I couldn't read a jot of it, there was gallons of trouser custard spilt as I flipped through all 44 pages of Darius heaven.

I actually have some Darius-related news to report soon. Stay tuned. :)

Glad ye enjoyed the read gents, I enjoyed writing it.

Second you said that TOTAL Magazine popped into my head,
Still have them upstairs in my man cave :) aka The Spare Bedroom :)

I once applied for Job as programmer for RARE just after college in 2004, saw job posting at back of Edge Magazine and to my surprise I got Phonecall interview from them, I was so shocked I totally choked on Interview but girl used to go on Summer Holidays to Skibbereen in Cork every year, so she put me threw to next round.

RARE flew me over to UK for second round of interviews, they had interviews in 4-5 major cities, and they had 6 Jobs. I made it to Final 8!!! and lost out just at the last hurdle, they later sent me 150 pounds cheque for flights expenses I think I have it still somewhere stuck between some games magazine pages :)

    :D

Jeez Kevin, that's amazing you got the call up for Rare, fair play to you! Funny Future did the same for me and paid my expenses to travel to Bath. Had to wait ages to get back to London though so sat in the pub outside their offices and got absolutely rifled. :pac:

Just had a look at it this morning on the way to work (brightened up the commute, cheers for that :))

I'll echo Retr0's comment about your writing, it really is an enjoyable read.

And the comment on an English language release? Sign me up!!

Cheers champ, glad that folk are enjoying it. Yamamoto-san emailed me back and said he enjoyed it, @Gameside on Twitter has tweeted a link to it. :)

I'm hoping for English PDF's too although I wouldn't hold your breath. It's nice he's considered it though and I think he was genuinely shocked to hear so many non-Japanese speaking people are a fan of the magazine.

Looking forward to Vol. 4 now, can't wait!
