With the wind forcing a storm surge into the bay all day the High Tide at 6.55pm today ( tuesday) could be fairly epic.

The Salthill prom will be shut...likely from 6pm-8pm so plan on commuting home early ( or very late) if you must cross town this evening. In extremis the Spanish Arch and Grattan Road near south park could be shut too but this is less likely. Furbo Beach and Spiddal Beach could be shut too if things are really bad.

Watch out for peds and cyclists, one already ended up underneath a car today in Galway.

So the prom, say in between the two roundabouts, will definitely be closed to traffic?.

Absolutely. The guards dont want to spend hours rescuing muppets so they close the road, job done.

High winds and rough seas hit Salthill-01_I_732916t.jpg
The sea pours over the road at Seapoint in Salthill, Galway, yesterday evening due to high tides and wind

By Paul Melia, Brian McDonald and Ralph Riegel

    Monday November 08 2010

HIGH winds and rough seas battered the western coastline last night as a storm swept in from the Atlantic.
Spot flooding occurred in many low-lying areas, but the region largely escaped the predicted flooding from spring tides.
A section of Salthill promenade in Galway was closed for a number of hours as a precaution, with city council workers and gardai diverting traffic through Salthill village instead.
Motorists were warned throughout the day to be particularly vigilant, with the strong winds and debris making driving conditions difficult

I doubt it will be updated. The message is pretty clear, if you need to the minute specific details, listen to GBFM or check here.

If the public car park beside the aquarium is closed already that would be the first sign of preparation.

Did they close the car park yet?
