Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

computer wont boot safe mode not working

    Hi
I have a dell. Studio xps running windows 7 and it would have the most uptodate windows security software as well as avg (did a full scan yesterday with no problems)
Anyway for some unknown reason my computer wont boot up anymore it gets past the resunibg windowa screen (before where it would usually ask for login info) and just goes to a blank screen and does nothing, the computer is still audibly doing something I.e. I can hear it spinning or whatever that noise is, it keeps this noise for about four minutes after which it ceases and I can only hear the noise of the fan, but still no changes on the monitor.

I have tried to boot in safe mode but am getting no joy out of any of the function keys except f2 which brings me to the BIOS screen.

I don't think it's a problem with the keyboard though as I tried tapping f12 very quickly and it started making that audible beep that occurs when you have held down a button to long,

Any help woulkd be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure but if you put in the windows disk and set your bios to go to disc first then you will boot the windows disc first and it will be able to perform a repair to the registry.

If you do not have disc then im not sure. can you get a lend of one?

Thanks pat, I can try a computer repair shop and see I'd they have one. Would they be expensive do you know?

If you have recently connected new hardware. Disconnect it and restart. At first black screen tap f8 repeatedly. On the menu that appears use cursor keys to highlight last know good configuration. See if that works for you. Good luck

Thanks barry, no new hardware and as said tried both f12 and f8 keys and neither did any good for me.

If you can't get the Safe Mode option immediately after the POST screen right as the resume screen press the reset button (If none hold power button for 10 secs until off) on the machine. This will usually force the machine to show "windows did not shut down normally" screen and offer Safe Mode. I have come accross problems with windows waking up like that, having said that a simple reboot usually gave the option to delete the hibernation file and boot normally

    Hope this helps
