A few questions about the 'DIP' year-

I'm currently studying the Hibernia H.Dip. I just wanted some clarifcation on the DIP year. I understand it is a period (ive heard 100 days?) where you are assessed by an inspector and when its completed you are a fully qualified national teacher. Here's a few questions I have...

    1. When you have finished your training course in pats, mary I, Hibernia etc., iIf you can't get a temp position or are barely getting subbing does this mean it is possible it could take you YEARS to finish this DIP period?

    2. Does anyone know if you need the DIP year completed to teach in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc.? Or would they know where I could find out this information?

    Thanks :)

    1. Yes, I know one girl personally who's out of college 3 years without getting a chance to get her Dip done. You can do it in one period of 100 days, or over 2 periods of 50 days.

    2. Don't know enough about current circumstances and don't want to give out of date info in case it's misleading. I taught there with the 3 year degree and Dip, but I'm not sure if the Dip was counted as a 4th year.

Have a look through this DES circular

Circular 47/2011 Probationary Requirements for Registration Purposes for Primary Teachers

You are a fully qualified teacher on receipt of your final results (provided you passed). The probationary year / dip year is nothing to do with your qualifications.
