Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After shave for older men

I'm looking to buy my dad a bottle of after shave for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to go for. It's probably only something he would put on for special occasions.

He is in his 60s, so things like Jean Paul Gaultier and One Million are definitely out of the question. I don't want to get him something like Old Spice either though.

I have a bottle of Burberry London I use myself, and while I think it's quite a unique scent, and has a mature kind of smell, does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks, i see they have quite a range of them there, and not too dear either.
Not sure those are the types I'd be able to buy in a typical department store though... I wanna make sure I can have a sniff of one before I decide to buy

Hi there. Give Yves Saint Laurent "L'Homme" a smell, i think that might tick the boxes for you. More of a classic scent, less sweet smelling. Try it.

The current trend in aftershaves and colognes are citrus scented. You'd be looking for something more spice or sandlewood based for an older/retro scent. Go to a department store and ask them for samples of anything in those lines. There is one really nice Tom Ford one available - sorry can't remember the exact one.
Remember that aftershaves like all other perfumes has a shelf life. If he only uses it infrequently then you may be wasting your cash.
A better suggestion night be (if he wet shaves) a scented shaving soap. There are lots of sandlewood scented shaving soap and bowl kits around. Taylors of Bond Street is the one I'm currently using. That and a new shaving brush make a really nice gift.
As mentioned above try Shaving.ie, very relyable service. You'll find more discussions on aftershaves over on the Facial hair & Hats forum. :)

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Chanel Allure. The allure sport is for the younger man although I have both. But seriously...allure (in the gold packaging not silver) is the your answer.

As suggested before i would look at shaving shop scents.
I've sampled most of them and i think the best bang for buck would be something from Truefitt and Hill, you can't go wrong with Trafalgar, Grafton or Spanish Leather.
Geo F Trumper are pretty good too but they can be very fleeting.
Penhaligons also do small gift sets where you get a few different scents and they are very good quality.

Any of the above are miles ahead of anything you'll find in boots for roughly the same price.

Next step would be niche fragrances and there are endless amounts out there.
